Hey Dr. Colliebreath you bring up a point that I was curious about. I plan on having a Neptune apex from the startup of my tank and I was curious if either of the two were controllable by the unit. Im assuming that people have done this and im curious how this works. The vortech units seem fantastic but im pretty sire they just operate on their own. Do the Tunze units work well doth the flow programs on the apex? I want equipment that with allow for SPS once I get to that point but i also want to make sure everything works well together. Again thanks for help.

It's amazing to me how people spread (wrong) information without knowing facts.
That said, tunze didn't lie about anything. They used formulas and calculations and based their ratings (in my opinion, they did this in good faith) off of those numbers. The study states those numbers are incorrect for the larger pumps, such as the 6105, etc.
The study was run by Sanjay, however there was an Ecotech intern involved as well. Not saying the study is flawed, but it should be mentioned. to say that Tunze lied about the flow of their pumps is just not right either.
To the OP, they're both good flow pumps. I have used ecotechs and tunzes. A number of both.
Essentially, the cons are as follows:
Vortech:
Initial cost is high
Noise levels are higher than Tunze
Not as reliable as Tunze.
Motor outside the tank (also a plus, but some don't like the look and some can't fit them due to tank location)
Tunze:
Larger in tank presence
Flow is not as wide with 6105 (you can buy the larger cover for this though)
Initial cost is high
You'll really be happy either way. If either company feels out of reach money wise or you can't personally justify the cost, a few Koralia Evos will suit you just fine.
Well maybe you should have done a simple search before to started a thread that has been beat to death.
We really need like a sticky of some sort with the pro and cons of both pumps. Cause this is getting really ridiculous that every week someone starts a thread about whic is better.
Because people just click random things without a thought to the setup.
You could put Vortech, Tunze, and Purple. Purple might very well win.
So did I spread anything? No I did not. I just merely made a comment about a older thread. K thanks
