Vortech Pump Placement

Ok pump placement geniuses I'm looking for ideas!

I have a 265g 84x24x30" tall.

I have 4, yes 4 Mp60's back from when I was going to do a 400g tank.

How many should be used and where would you place them?

EcoTech calculator says 2 max but wondering if I could run 3 or even 4 and just not run them super high.

Tank will be SPS dominant but I do have chalices and other fleshy LPS plus some shrooms and zoas in the frag tanks waiting for this build.

I haven't decided on rock work yet.

If they are Reef link compatible you could sync up to 8 of them. They're fully programmable so you can adjust and set as needed by your corals. I run Neptune Wav pumps and do the same, just sit in front of the aquarium and adjust them with the app as needed. Super easy and practical.

Currently have 2, one on each end and a Tunze Turbelle Stream 3 on one end and they can create some pretty strong flow if needed. Love the Wav's as they're fully controllable on Apex Fusion, but you must have an Apex though

I would place one on each end of the tank and the other two spaced evenly on the back of the tank for crossflow.

The most common answer would probably be two on the back and one on each end.

I don't like the look of pumps on the end so I'd put all four on the back wall, not synced, all on reef crest mode, setting appropriate max speed.

You think all 4 wouldn’t be to much flow?

There is a sand bed to consider if you use one.
Too close to the bottom & a sand storm.
Too much flow back to front will move sand too.
You will just have to try it, but 1 each side & 2 on the rear sounds right.
Point them up slightly if you can.

Substrate: Gonna mix it up..
Reefflakes - 3.0mm,
Reefflakes Grand Select - 4.5mm,
Bag of coral gravel.

Probably just an inch or so.

I favor running as many pumps as reasonable to get as much varied flow as possible across all parts of the tank. I wouldn't be running the MP60s anywhere near max on the back, but would use all four. I would probably even add a couple more pumps (like gyres) with a 84" tank.

On my 48" tank I have two Sea Swirls on the returns randomizing the flow across the top. Two MP40s on the back wall at the bottom putting flow across the bottom of the tank, and two gyres vertical in the back corners pulsing opposite each other creating a back and forth gyre at mid level.

Lots of ways to tackle it. If you don't mind pumps on the side, the power of the MP60s could be used to get good flow across the 84". No perfect solution. Really nice tank BTW.

Yeah, bare bottom. That's how I get away with running two MP40s across the bottom.
