VorTech setting in SPS systems.

I just spoke with the VorTech rep about settings on New Years Eve....He said he wasen't sure why most people use Reef crest but SPSs like pulsing in the Blue pulse mode set 3/4 of full speed....The idea he said is to have the pulse move around your tank & then have it pulse again once it makes a full circle so it depends on the tank size for how long the timing between pulses should be....That allows the correct flow for SPSs....LPSs more prefer the red long pulse mode so they sway more...At least that was my understanding....I have 2 40's & a corner tank & he said they would be better used one directly over the other on the same wall not opposing walls....

I have two MP40s in a standard 120. I have them on opposite sides of the tank in short pulse mode and anti-synched. Seems to really keep everything in motion. I had them set anti-synch reef crest for a while, but just recently switched. I like the short pulse better. I can live with the noise if my corals are happy.

I have a corner tank, so proper waves don't form. Reef crest mode at about %75 seems to work for me. The only problem is I wish you could also set a minimum flow.

In my 29g I run a MP10 in addition to a Koralia 1, Koralia Nano, Mag5 return and a Rio 1100 return. Because of all the other pumps running I have my Vortech at about 40% and I use the Long Pulse mode. I set my up to produce a seven second flow and a seven second ebb. So far, I like the results but when I get some more free time I would like to try some other settings

What size tank do you have & where did you place your VorTechs??? I have a bowfront that is 92 gal....Both of mine are on the right panel one above the other about 4 inches from the front of the tank....

Found this thread after thinking of switching modes. Been using reef crest at about 60% for my 40 breeder SPS dominated but trying short pulse just now seems to get corals across the tank and doesnt seem to beat on them either.

Anyone else doing short pulse?

I used to use short pulse wave exclusively in a 75 with 1 Mp40w, after noticing I was getting cyano, I changed to reefcrest and the cyano went away. I switch modes every couple of days now.

I have 2 MP40w placed on opposite sides and they are set short pulse mode, full power. Some times reef crest.

I tried reef crest in my tank and although I love how random it is, on average its too slow. It rarely peaks to maximum speed. I prefer the lagoon mode (purple) just because its always above 50% in power. So my vote goes towards lagoon mode for my 67g with an mp40

I use to also use lagoon mode since it was from mid to high range rather than reef crest which goes low to high.

SPS seem to be liking the short pulse wave so far. Im going to give it a few weeks.

I agree with this. I run to 40's on my 180 and reefcrest seemed too weak. Lagoon mode at 100% is working for me and both set to master. I also made sure to switch pump #2 to lagoon setting a few minutes after the first pump to ensue that they are in different spots of the programming for added randomness.

I just go tmy mp10 a week ago an love it. I started using reef crest mode at about 85-90% in my 30g. What i plan on doing is every other day just use a different mode. Keep the corals guessing :D
