Vortech Wireless Pumps

Thanks again. I'm setting up my first reef tank in my office. So the apex capabilities are very attractive, giving me the option to check tank parameters out when I'm not there. Unfortunately that's not very often but will be there all day watching it and not having it sitting at home where I'm not.

Hey, thanks guys. I actually get how if you stand on your head, and bend your neck 75 degrees to the north, you can call this oh-so-wired pump wireless. Yes, even as I'm staring at the big black wire connecting my MP40 to the controller and the big black wire connecting the controller to the power source, I see that this is truly a wireless product!

Just kidding. I now get that if I buy another MP pump the two controllers could wirelessly communicate with each other. So, yeah, it has a wireless function. Maybe two, but I can't wrap my mind around the LED light function so I'll leave it at that.

All my whining aside, I am very impressed with this thing. The coral and fish have definitely perked up since I installed it. And the ramping up and down function does seem to be unique. Plus the controller is way cool with the flashing LED lights moving back and forth in a Bella Lugosi, what the hell is he doing with that octopus kind of way.

It's a tad noisy (OMG, why did he have to go there?), but so far, this idiot is VERY happy with its performance.

Up the Vortech!

Doing a "micro-alignment" can sometimes help the noise. You can only align it roughly by sight, so put your hand in the tank and move the wetside a little bit at a time in different directions with your eyes closed and your ear stuck to the glass. At some point it will hit dead center and be very quiet.

That's assuming you're hearing wetside noise, of course. The dryside does make sound and some people are more sensitive to it than others. Some tank layouts mask it better than others, too. On all my tanks with Vortechs they are mounted either inside a wall or facing one and I can't hear them over the ambient room sound.

Sorry to bring back this thread.
I'm in the middle of buying a MP10 for my tank. It is a RSM 130D so, this pump is all that im going to need. If i'm not planning to have 2 MP10, so this pump will not have to sync with another one.. Just to be sure, it will not make any diference getting the wireless right?
If in the very long run, I upgrade tank, and get another MP, is it possible to run 2 MP in sync with a wire?!
I agree, the wireless claim is very misleading

Thanks everyone,

I think both models need to be wireless to run inanti sync. or you can buy a rf communicator and attach it to the controllers for them to communicate

I think the wireless feature is retardrd. Who cares the pump can talk to other pumps or even more, a light.

Install vortech pump, set to Reefcrest, done. All other modes are useless IMO.

What a great pump.

JAustin- the wireless feature is not retarded if you would like to change different modes. You have determined that reefcrest mode is good for your tank and thats great. That mode might not be good for others, in fact some people like to cycle through modes through out the day via an apex controller and wxm expansion module. Some people want to create a more random flow through out the day then just what reefcrest mode offers. Thats fine too. I really dont understand why you think something is retarded and then purchase it.

Don't take me so litterelly. I'm just a huge fan of the random flow Reefcrest offers. Pulse mode is loud and annoying to me and most vortech users. Most vortech users run on Reefcrest anyway. I just don't understand the wireless feature. Sure it can synch with other pumps but for the only purpose of waves? Again, vortechs are annoying in wave mode.

It's not a retarder pump, just dumb features. Like thunderstorm on led fixtures.....please.

Thanks everyone,
Buy the non-wireless if you are going to use only one. You can always buy the RF module and make the controller wireless. The way they are priced it won't cost you more at the end.
