I am ready to order my powerheads for my new 75 gallon reef ready tank.My question is the vortech MP10's say they are good for tanks up to 50 gallons, but if i have 2 is that good enough for my 75 gallon tank? Or do i need to get the MP40? And if i do need the MP40 should i get 2 of them?
Thanks for any help guys...

I was reading up about this too for my new tank, also a standard 75g. There's no way I'm spending 1k on a pair of powerheads, so it's either 2 mp10s or 1 mp40 and a couple Koralias. My concern is, I had two Koralia 1400gph powerheads and they were lackluster to say the least, and the mp10s are only a little stronger at full speed. I'm guessing the anti-sync will help them work to suspend particles way better than just the two static flow powerheads...?

I use a single MP10W ES in my 28g Nanocube, and I only have it pulsing at about 30%. To me, it would seem that two MP10s would give you enough power for the tank, and two points of variable circulation instead of the 1 point you would get with a single MP40.

Someone else with more experience (maybe with both models) may be able to give more insight, but if it was me I would go with two MP10s to have two different areas of variable flow generation.

Get 2 mp10s wireless and set them in anti-sync mode. That's what i have on my 46gal and it's all SPS....Great reandom flow.

I would go with the MP10's. The sound of the MP40's really get to me. I have 4 MP10's right now on my 100 gallon and love the flow.

What are the dimensions of your 100 gallon? I'm in the same boat. I'm going to a 90 with 4" dsb so it will be the same as a 75 dimension wise. I'm thinking of going with 2 MP10's since I have one now on my 29.

I have just installed a single MP40 on my 120, it is loud but it replaced 4 Koralia's. I'll take the electric motor whine any day over the clicking noise of the Koralia's on a wave maker.

i would go with 2 mp10 if one would stop working you still have one going until you get the other one fixed and its a great pump

I have a standard 75g tank. I have had Tunze and I currently use Vortech.
2 MP10s is the better choice over a single MP40 for several reasons and they will generate enough flow for SPS.
