VSV vodka sugar vinager Sps tanks

Well I am looking to find out who is dosing all three carbon dosing sources into there reef tanks. I would like to see your tanks and what it has done for you and what it hasn't. Also can you tell us all what your dosing is like and have you had any negative affects.

Thanks

I dose vinegar and sugar, vodka is for the reefer not the reef IMO. No ill effects other than occasional cyano blooms maybe. It's all about the quantity and keeping up the schedule.

Thanks for sharing, are you dosing manually or via a dosing pump and how much daily? In addition I have read that you must also dose bio digest is this true? When you get some time please post some pictures.

Successful keeping NO3 undetectable on test kit with vinegar(17ml on 150g), so haven't tried vodka or sugar. Have never dosed bio digest, tried microbacter7 some time back when running bio pellets, but just seemed to mask the NO3 on the test kit. Negative effects from overdosing vinegar, are stringy bacteria in sump and cyanobacteria. Vinegar has allowed to feed fish heavily and keep tangs fat, which passes on down the food chain. everybody is happy

I dose sugar via pappone and manually dose vinegar into my ATO, sometimes directly into the tank. I dose 3 ml on a 125 or so gallon system, pappone every other night. It helps get out the junk but it's not a miracle cure.

Thanks for sharing, have a question I thought pap pone was a type of food for the Sps? How is that working for you and are you adding the HGH to it?

Pappone is a food, it has sugar in it. HGH is not affordable for my reef, I use Seachem fuel in it's place. It has worked well for years, when I stopped for a few months I noticed a decline in all SPS and LPS, I've been back at it for a few months and the coral has improved vastly.

thanks guys, pics actually do it some justice, messed with the white balance setting on the point and shoot. However I was never able to maintain good colors until addition of vinegar. Lighting is 56rb, 14blue, 28cw LED and 4 80w T5, three blue plus and One Fiji purple on STD 150g tank. Kalkwasser is added via auto top off and two part dosed manually. Vinegar and Iron dosed daily, and Iodine a few days a week, no schedule. Can't remember if I was running GFO at that time, may have been back when I was dosing sodium nitrate to try to help remove PO4. Currently on GFO, sodium nitrate wasn't successful but is still used on occasion when lps start to turn pale. There's a couple of Ebay sca skimmers in the sump with blue ochtodes and dragons breath which is fed to the fish along with pellets and sushi wrappers

heres FTS from same time period

Thanks for sharing outstanding work!!!! How long has you tank been running now with vinager? I have been dosing vodka since July and was thinking about doing the VSV method but still unsure.

yes, stopped the bio pellets, started adding vinegar to kalk top off before taking pellets offline. Was adding 45ml vinegar and 3tsp kalk per gallon of top off and roughly using about 2 gallons a day. Problem was way too much vinegar, bacteria bloom, and a polymer like bacteria growing in the sump. Cut the vinegar in kalk top off to half the dose and still had bacteria issues. It wasn't until vinegar was dosed manually that bacteria in sump went away. Had been dosing 17ml a day on 150g total system volume and nitrates have been undetectable on test kit. API kit which is not the best but use it to try and keep some nitrate in the tank. Just this week , cut the vinegar dose in half again, more will be revealed. Have never tried vodka or sugar

Since everything sort of went downhill I've been dosing Vodka w/Biopellets. I figured I would dose vodka until the biopellets had time to do whatever they need to do. I'm also using GFO/GAC. Just tested tonight and I'm at 0 phos, 0 nitrate. Which was really surprisingly considering what happened to the tank and the amount of detritus I still need to get out. Not to mention the increased feeding due to the addition of the gig. On top of normal fish feeding I'm feeding half a shrimp a day just to the nem until it gets it's colour back.

Why did you stop pellets? I've thought about setting up dosers for vodka and vinegar but I really want to keep it on the "less then recommended side" since I was happy with my results when not carbon dosing.
