Waiting on my Flame Angel

The Flame Angelfish is my must have fish, inch for inch imo it is the most beautiful fish available in the hobby. In the past my attempts at keeping this fish were unsuccessful.

The first one was from petco about 4 years ago and ended when I made a huge rookie mistake and nuked my tank based on bad advice from a kid at petco.

The second one was from a LFS about 3 years ago, and is still an unexplained death. But back then I didn't quarantine.

I took a hiatus from trying this fish until I felt more comfortable in my husbandry practices. My current tank was set up about 2 years ago and a Flame Angel has always been on my mind for it. Well today is the day my new friend should be arriving soon from live aquaria. :celeb3:

Ok he showed up. Swimming erratically on his side a little bit. They packed him with a cool pack and the water temp was 68f. Floated him for 15 mins to bring the temps closer and now he is drip acclimating in the bucket.

Since the temp has come up a little he started swimming a little more normal and keeps trying to jump out of the bucket. Hopefully all goes well. Absolutely gorgeous specimen I will post a pick once I get him in the QT.

Good luck with him. I don't have any advice to offer other than to stabilize parameters as quickly as possible, but it sounds like you're doing what you can.

He was swimming in the bucket right at the surface, I checked Ammonia and got a reading of .75 ppm. I opted to move him directly to the QT instead of dripping for an hour.

Still breathing fast but he is upright and swimming at the bottom.

I agree with you. It's one of my favorite fish. I just have never pulled the trigger because I'm scared that it will nip corals.

I currently only have 4 inexpensive frags in my DT I wanted to get him in there and see if he is gonna be a nipper before I starting adding the corals I want. If he does nip I have a good reason to set up another tank and make it FOWLR

Mine jumped out to its death. Be weary of this my friend.

Full canopy on display with a screened in back and overflow. Glass lid on QT. I have never had a fish jump out and am really hoping that is a statistic I can keep. LOL. How long did you have yours before the suicide?

Wait until the afternoon, and then try just a few small pieces of mysis or some type of small shrimp. Had one and it got velvet from something else in my tank. So beautiful and will get another one in the future! Keep us posted!

I got my first flame on Friday. I'm loving it so far! Adds a ton of beauty to the tank. Just hope he doesn't take to nipping corals when I go full reef.

Can't see pics of your guy cause I'm at work, but I'm sure he's gorgeous!

His breathing has slowed down a lot. He is exploring the QT looking much better. Still can't get a great pic but he has 4 bars on his right and 5 on his left, which I thought was pretty cool.

Ok Good news, he is breathing normal, swimming normal, and accepted a few pieces of brine. He also has come out of hiding and is challenging his reflection.
