Waiting on my Flame Angel

Ok here is an update. He (looks more male now) is doing really well, has quickly taken over the 20 gal QT and roams the entire tank and is often picking at the few pieces of rock I have in there. At this point no visible signs of disease or stress. He has now eaten brine, mysis, and NLS pellets. I am excited as he looks much healthier than my previous two from a couple of years back.

Just a word of advice too! I noticed the tetra heater, and I am not sure how long you have had it or how familiar you are with them. I have had a few the past few years, and they are not very accurate. I had one in a qt one time and it kept making my temperature swing. Just make sure you keep a close eye on it! ( I hope this doesn't come across as a lecture and more as helpful advice! Lol )

Ya it is a horrible heater, lol. I have had a few of them and I need to get a temp controller for it. I have a digital readout thermometer on the QT and keep an eye on it. I guess I just don't pay enough attention to heaters as I don't use one on my DT.

Nice Flame angel. I just got mine recently, I switched over to a soft coral tank from a LPS and softie tank just so that I can keep my Flame without worrying if it will bother the corals.

I now have 5 flame Angels. A pair in my 65 gal and a trio, 1 male and 2 females in my 320. My angels spawned all the time. They are great reef fish if we n
Keep them well fed. I have mix reef. Clams anemones SPS LPS and soft corals

The best way to tell male from female is the shape of the dorsal and anal fins.the number of stripes is too population dependent to help us at the LFS. Also Flame angel and most or all the angels in then Genus are protogynous hermaphrodites. If you get a group of female together the most dominate one will turn male. It seem that once they change to male, they cannot change back.

Thanks for the continued interest, heres an update. Went on vacation, and i had a skimmer overflow from overfeeding by the house sitter, lost most of my corals but all of the fish survived. Me and my wife started building a house and I am building a bigger tank into the house. So I opted to sell that tank and all the livestock instead of moving it only to shut it down couple months later. When I last saw the flame angel he was fat and happy. I wish I could have kept him as he was such a gorgeous fish but all I have at the moment is my 8 gallon nano. Once the house and big tank are finished I will definitely be adding another flame angel to that system.
