Wal Mart 10 Gallon tanks are junk!

I just wanted to share my experience with 10 Gallon tanks from Wal Mart, which leak.

Right now I have a tiny hippo tang and a little yellow tang in QT. The hippo tang seems really scared of the slightly larger yellow tang and hides all day long under the heater. Now, he eats and comes out sometimes, but a few days ago I was planning on giving him his own QT tank.

So, I bought a 10G glass tank from wally world for 12 bucks, along with a HOB filter, etc. I get it home, fill it with saltwater and about 10 minutes later I have 10 gallons of SALTwater on my kitchen floor! Not good...

Ok, bad tanks happen. So, I returned it and got another identical tank. This time I filled it next to the sink with tap water. Sure enough, this one leaked too. I was watching it and it was 90% full and it looked like one whole side of the bottom glass pane just came separated from the frame. At least it didn't flood everything.

So, I gave up and filled up a 5 gallon plastic bucket. No leaks and the HOB filter hangs on good enough.

If bad seals were rare, what are the odds of 2 bad tanks in a row? I guess the manufacturer knows they're junk because I actually read the label on it, and it says to watch the tank for a while to make sure it doesn't leak when first filled. Go figure.

So, in a nutshell... be careful if you're buying the cheap 10 gallon tanks from wal mart.

</end rant>

What do you expect for 25 cents an hour? I suspect the person that was sealing these tanks waited too long to put on the glass after the silicone. Probably was nap time. Hey what can you expect from an 8 year old?
