Hello,

I am currently setting up my reef tank. I am looking for some dry base rock. Does anyone know which stores sell dry base rock?

Or does someone have some they want to get rid of? :D

Thanks,
Chris

reefrocks, is usually dry from the pics ive seen and theyre cheap/inexpensive also. there might be a site (www.) for them, not sure. REEF-ON!

how many pounds chris.
just keep checking this forum

most of the time you can get it live for the same price as you would pay for reefbone.

just a thought

Mark,

I am not looking for alot. I want probuably about 30 pounds. I really just want to use it for a good base. I am going to have a deep sand bed and want the base rock so I don't end up burring live rock. Don't want to pay live rock prices and end up burring most of it.

I may just buy the live rock and build PVC or some sort of supports so the rock does not get burried in the sand. But I think base rock would be better and if the sand does get moved I will not be looking at PVC. (-:

Moongoddess, I will have to check out Marine Warehouse.

I know there are a few local places, like Rockin Reef, that Aqua Culture live rock, do any of them sell base rock to the public?

Thanks,
Chris

sounds great chris..
i can definately see your reasoning. i was thinking you were going to say a fish store and paying like 2.50 a lb ( which is what it is locally here) .. i have seen live rock on this forum for as cheap as 2.00 a lb .

but i def. dont see the need of buying good stuff if it is going to be barried LOL :)

I went reeferrocks (reeferrocks.com) for my baserock. He sends pictures of the rocks he picks out for you for your approval before he sends them out. I bought the 55# premium box and I think after shipping it was like $105. He has even better pricing on ebay occasionally. The rock is very porous and holey, and very easy to drill out. I was able to bore out a hole large enough to use 1/2" pvc for support in my tank.

FOIS has base rock for like $4 lb. Great looking stuff, but its wet and in with the live rock.... Some I bought a couple of weeks ago colored up pretty quick.....

College429, Do you know what landscape company you bought the rock from? Did you just buy florida lime rock?

Mike, How much do you want for the base rock in your garage? I think you are farther than I want to travel though. )-:

Adnup, When I am ready for the good live rock, I am going to go to FAOIS I think the live rock there is the best.

Thanks,
Chris

Guntercb,
I went to some landscape rock company near Dale Mabry south of Waters. I can't remember the name. It was actually on a side street. Any landscape rock company will do. Yes just get florida limestone. It is not very porous, but doesn't much matter if it is under your good rock. Only other drawback is that not being porous there is less surface area for bacteria and copepod/amphipod habitat.

That is the one. Just go to their front door, grab a wheel barrel. It is self serve. Go to their pile of rocks and pick out which ones you want. Wheel them to their check out counter and they will weight them. I can't remember exactly what I paid. I think it was around .25-.50 cents per pound?

I dont really want cash, do ya have anything to trade?? Maybe like some frags or something like that. I know ya said that ya just setting up but I noticed that in your glallery ya had a tank filled up with things....

Mike,

I sold that tank. So nope, I don't have any live stock to trade. I might have some powerheads or some strange chemicals, but probuably nothing you want.

Right now I have a my 120 gallon tank filled up with RO water and the pumps running pushing water through the system.

I may add some salt tonight and think about getting my rock and sand in the tank.

Thanks,
Chris
