Want to move clam....Would this work?

Hi everyone-

Well, I think I want to move my Crocea because he's just a little too low in the tank IMO and he's not directly under the 150 10k MH bulb (just off to the side of the bulb by about 2".

He doesn't open up all the way IMO, and lighting, depth is the only thing I can think of

ph 7.8-8.0
Calc 400-450
dKH 9-10
1.026
Am/Nitrite/Nitrate 0

Problem is, I didn't think ahead and I put him on a fairly large piece of LR and the center of the rock has a recess type hole in it. He fit well there and attached quickly (after kicking himself over in various other spots). I'm also having trouble determining if the opening he's resting in is preventing him from opening all the way, but I'm more apt to think I'm just worrying.

Anywaysssss....He has decent mantle extension and such, looks healthy, but I want to move him up in the column where he'll be closer to the light and where I think he'll open more.

I've read around here that I can cut him off the rock (as far away from the shell as possible) which I'm apprehensive about doing. In addition, the way the rock is formed (the hole), I can't get under him very easily.

Way to go, I know.

But I was wondering if I can induce him to let go by shading him from light for a few hours or a day. I don't think that would harm him but just maybe trick him into thinking he needs to move spots, whereupon he might let go thinking he'll fall over like they do when unhappy with positioning.

Has anyone tried this or do you clam experts think it's feasible or possible?

I was thinking about taking a dark container (like tuperware) and placing it over him, effectively putting him in the dark.

Am I crazy? will it work ?

can you post a pic?

if he were laking in light he would probably open more and hyper extend his mantle. being 2" off to one side will make very little difference, how deep is he?

what fish / inverts do you have??

Hopefully these pics help. As you can see, the clam is a little off to the left of a MH (2 MH bulbs in canopy). He is about 18-20" under the water line. In the full tank shot, he's in the bottom LH corner of the photo.

He is fully secured to the rock he's kind of sitting "in". Again, he's kind of sitting in a hole on this rock, which makes getting underneath him for cutting loose purposes almost impossible.

Does he look healthy? Does it look like he's extending his mantle enough.

If you all say he looks like he's doing fine, I will let him live happily where he's at.

looks fine to me, the mantle is laying on the shell and he's attached, sounds like a happy clam.

nice crocea :)
