Want to try a hydno, do I have enough light?

The back right corner of my 29 has a little too much flow to grow LPS. I was going to just stick a frag of orange Monti cap back there, but I would like to try something different.

My lighting is 2x65watt PC over a standard (not biocube) 29. Think I could grow a Hydnophora (I love the green) under that? (it would be placed about 1/2way up the tank). It's a great spot for one too (i.e. there'll be tons of space between it and other corals ;))

i just got rid of a beautiful mature colony. and it seemed wherever i put it in my tank it did great i moved it alot due to being to aggressive to my other sps. relally hated to get rid of but its the nature of the beast. also the tank it moved to its doing great too.pretty hardy IMO.good luck with yours

Nice, I'll think I'll find a frag and give it a shot. What kind of lighting did you have yours under (and how far from the light source was the coral)?

haha its funny you say this, i have the same experience with my hydno. kept moving it around and now it is in the middle of a zoa colony and next to a clam, now i dont have to worry about it anymore

the hydno can do well in all kinds of light conditions. It prefers very high light IME as far as the best growth though.

The best growth I ever have seen with one is directly under 10k xm's at the top of the tank

it used to be under halides. now got a ATI SP 6 bulb T5 did real well under that too. its funny i had it low i had it high i had it mid way. did great any where. real beautiful peice to watch in motion. hated to get rid of it but not compatible with what i have. my male clarkii lived in the middle of it and rubbed all the polyps there off. he was a jumper and no time it healed right back up

does it sting your clam or zoas? i like them but just tend to be a little on the agressive side
