I would to buy a powder blue tang. I need some more fish in my tank, possibly a Sohal tang. I saw a sohal yesterday but didnt want to part with th $150 they were asking. So if any has a powder blue or a sohal let me know. I'm also open to suggestions.
If you are set on a Powder Blue, make sure to prepare yourself up front for all the potential problems and diseases that the fish can/may/will contract. With this fish a QT is a must IMO, and I would recommend a 4-6 week QT period before adding it to your tank.
I wouldn't recommend a sohal in anything less than a 400. If you have ever watched the sohal in the zoos large tank. It even chases the other tangs in that tank.
I QT'd my powder blue in cupramine for over 6 weeks. I also treated him for flukes just in case. I wouldn't consider anything less than a six foot long tank for a pb since they are swimmers and like to shoot back and forth.
Make sure if you get one, to QT him. I lost the first one I got from ich, but so far my second one has been in this tank for over a year with no sign of any problems . I think mine came from Fosters and Smith.
Good luck
They are very fragile. Mine got ick maby once a month (always just let it run it's corse and he would fight it off) I brought a UV online and he hasn't had it since. Just somthign to think about. Seems the lights go out early and the powders stress and get ick.
I'm gonna play devils advocate as well. I've had more problems QTing the fish that stress easy. Any more if they don't show signs of anythign I drop in my system. They seem to fight off infection much better in a more comfortable environment with out the help of chemicals. I've qt fish for months put them in my display and in 24 hours they would be riddled with ick. Then I would watch them fight it off, so I decided to I'd only stress them once and i started putting them right in my display. Only the PB was getting it untill the UV. Again not saying I don't suggest the QT. I still do it to corals that i get from the LFS. Just my experiance with weaker types of fish.
I'm the same way anymore, Markviii.....I battled with ich on the Hippo for some time....had him qt'd at Hectors b4 I brought him home....put him in my tank....he stressed and was full of the stuff...fed him plenty of garlic pellets and garlic algae.....let it run it's course...
I think it was $55, I would say medium. Good looking fish though, they were all in seperate tanks, healthy and eating. No signs of parasites (copper in tanks).
