wanted: small styro shipping box

I have a small rock with a tulip anemone on it that a guy in MI by Detroit wants. He'll pay shipping but we're trying to figure out how to get it to him alive. Some have said to use those heat packs, but there must be a special kind? The hand warmers only stay warm for 8 hours, and being shipped priority it could be en route for 2 days, or hopefully not 3 days. Does anyone have a little styro box that they could donate, or perhaps a shipping idea that we haven't come up with? He doesn't want to pay the overnight costs... I don't blame him!

Check out his zip code at fedex and ups for ground.
If he lives close enough you can ship it ground in 1 day for cheap.

If not and you have to do USPS Ive done it several ways but dont ship 2-3 day when its this cold cuz it is too cold.
USPS overnight might not be that expensive either if you use a small box.
Last yr they had those collapsable coolers on sale at Menards for like $2 in fall.
Honestly with the temps here at night I dunno if it would make it for 2 day shipping. I doubt it.

Ive lined mine with styro and/or used those collapsable coolers (best way) and have used heat packs but like you say they wont last that long.

If its just a small rock, go to walmart and pick up a cheap thermos (they can be as cheap as $1 at times (DOllar stores work also). Shoip it in a bag of water in the thermos and don't worry about a heat pack if it is going overnight. The anemones are pretty hardy.

I've got about fifty various styro boxes lying around (not including the CargoTech Airliner inflatable boxes I use to ship...in which case I've got 150 or more!) and an assortment of heat packs ranging from 20 hours to 40 hours. Let me know what you need. You're more than welcome to a box and heat pack. If it's going overnight, the 20-hour should be fine, otherwise the 40-hour is a better bet.

The only thing I'd ask is $1 for the heat pack, so I can recoup some of my cost on them...

How large/small of a rock is it? The smallest boxes I've got are in the 8x8x8 range...
