Wanting a Dragonet

No, but obviously it's not going to eat everything in your tank -immediately. Starving to death takes time, but it definitely will happen.
I can't even believe this conversation is going on at RC. I might as well be talking to Petco employees. Are you sure that's not where you work?

Would you care to quantify how many mandarin dragonettes will eat frozen food right out of the chute?

Are we willing to sentence the rest to a slow death in a nano-tank just so someone can enjoy instant gratification?

I'm betting he was more turned off by a lot of rude responses, but to each his own.
It is not easy to say how many will eat frozen foods or not, and I agree that most will not. HOWEVER, to say that they will definitely die without a doubt is simply dogmatic and not true. It is not a good idea for someone new to the hobby to try right off of the bat with an immature system and without a sump in such a small tank, but some people simply won't take the time to be nice about it and become defensive quickly and, in my opinion, unnecessarily.
Reefing is definitely not definite in my opinion.

I think the only one dealing in absolutes here are you two who will not admit that they CAN be kept in smaller tanks on frozen food. I don't think anybody else here said that all mandarins will eat frozen and it was mentioned several times that it would be difficult and not the norm.
You however keep saying it's impossible, which is NOT true. This is a site to share information, it yours is most definately misinformation. It's one thing to say, "while there is a slim chance of succeeding, I would reccomend against keeping this fish in such a small tank" which I think most people in this thread agree on. However you straight out say, "no, you'd can't do it, it's absolutely impossible." False. End of story. You can argue all you want, it can be done.

Maybe the OP never returned because of all the bickering caused by people incorrectly giving him advice about how great mandarins are at surviving in small tanks vs. people who are honestly giving their assessment of the situation.
I bet I could keep you in a box for quite a while. And then I'd come on RC in a week and be like: Told you guys. My kar93 is still alive! HAHA!
And then everyone would be like: Wow. rjsilvers kept a kar93 alive in a box. It CAN be done.
And then I would come back in 2 weeks and be like: hey guys my kar93 isn't looking so hot. i think he's sick.
And then my kar93 would die of starvation and I'd have to get another one because they look soooo cool.

well, of course it can be done. but i wouldn't sugest playing the lottery as a way to make money. or because we're talking about a live animal here, its closer to russian roulette. i'll bet you could also find a way to keep a tang alive in a 20gallon tank if you were to try a thousand times.
what i'm saying is it is far too small a chance that things will end up fine for this to be a good idea.
for the record, i got lucky, i have a 100gallon system that i waited a year and a half to mature making sure i consistantly had a good pod population before adding a mandarin, and of course the stupid thing eats frozen like a cow, but if it didn't i'd still probably be fine.
what i'm saying is it is far too small a chance that things will end up fine for this to be a good idea.

Here's a mandarin that lived in a 29g for a while. Its now in a 280, but with other mandarins. Marc feeds it frozen foods everyday, just like he did in the 29g.
There are others as well who have kept mandarins long term on frozen foods. I have yet to understand why they cannot be as all you say is "They won't live" and give NOTHING to back up your claim.

well, i geuss all i can say is once again, that tank is 1.5 times the size of the original posters.
plus marc isn't exactly the average hobbiest, i wouldn't watch tv and figure i could drive 200mph without crashing because i just saw 50 other guys do it.

he's well known here, the local saltwater club actually flew him out here about a month ago
he's also the president of the dallas/ fort worth aquarium society and a guy who fabricates his own tanks.

no, unfortunatly. his website is actually what got me into reefkeeping. i think i had a Ochem test the next day.
