Wanting to Breed False or True Percula Clowns.

I am wanting to breed clownfish and so far the easiest or the most done seem to be the Ocellaris or Percula Clownfish.

What size of tank should I use for the parents?

What are the steps to having a sucsesful mate and hatch?

For food I have rotifers, phyto, and almost constant access to cleaner shrimp larvea. For the larval tank will be a 10g aquarium with 20lbs livesand, cheatomorpha algea, sponge filter, and a heater.

You should read "Clownfishes" by Joyce Wilkerson. That book alone will likely answer nearly all of your clownfish spawning and larval rearing questions.

If I were you I would not put sand, cheato, or a sponge in with the larvae. These are all death traps. A bare tank would be better for ease of maintainance.

A ten gallon tank should be sufficient for the broodstock and make sure you feed, feed, FEED to get them conditioned quickly. However, I know many people feel that getting clowns to start spawning is not always easy and some clowns just never seem to get there and I tend to agree. So you will need to have quite a bit of patience. You could get clowns that spawn for you in a matter of months and some will take years and some never will....

Good Luck!
