Warner Marine Now Has A Pellet Product

I have read that some people think there may be manufacturing residue left on the pellets. Maybe mold release so they fall out of the mold? I think some have soaked them in vinegar first.

I would think it more likely they are made in strings that are cut into small pieces and not in molds. If you look closely they are all just a little different from each other, Not like they were made in a mold that would have them all looking the same. JMO
As far as any residue goes, I think the Mfg would tell you if rinsing was needed to remove harmfull residues from the Mfg process.
As a long time user i did not rinse,Soak in Vinegar or do anything to the pellets other than put them in a reactor and they are working as advertised in my situation.:celeb1:

Yeah they look that they were extruded like those machines that make ground beef, or pasta... then cut. I just soaked mine in RO overnight, but i only had a few floaters.

Bill -- how much flow you got going through your reactor? Are you still GFO-less and feeding heavy?

Hey Jack, Got my New tank up this past w/e my EB is still running off a Maxi Jet 1200 wide open, But will be put on the Manifold i built in my new 65gal sump/W Water Blaster 7000 Return pump. And I'm not running any GFO just carbon and my Po4 is still around 4 PPB Nitrate 0 Salifert but not sure of that one. I got my Powder Brown Tang back plus added some other fish for a total of around 14 fish all medium except the tang and i feed the crap out of them.
The I-Tech skimmer pulls any uneaten food out real fast so i don't worry at all.
Bill:dance:
PS Hope your tank is doing well

I am still somewhat unclear why the pellets needs to be soak in RO/DI for a day before use. Is this something recommended by WM? Or is that because the other brands of pellets requires soaking?

Bill,
So you don't even wash the pellets? They are *that* clean and can be used directly to the tank?

It's simply so they don't float inside the reactor when you first add them. Helps to saturate the pellets before use. Ideally they should sink to the bottom where they can tumble appropriately.

Well, why not add them directly to the reactor in the tank? It would float at most 1 day right? Sorry not trying to make this a huge deal; obviously it's not. It just seems easier to be able to add it directly to the reactor without an extra soaking step.

That is exactly what i did! Saw no adverse reactions of any kind. And was not told to do any such thing by Jon warner when i bought mine directly from him.
I do not think Rumors are benefical to any ones use of these pellets, If you have questions ask the Mfg and get Facts not I heard that Blah Blah Blah...

Well, my pellets are doing a good job for me. I am not sure exactly how much I am running b/c I have added some, but I would estimate I am using over 1 liter on my 140 gallon water volume in a large 4 inch diameter GEO reactor with about 550 gph of flow. Pellets are tumbling gently.

My issue. I am using 100 micron filter socks, and now they are cloging to the point that they start to overflow in less than 24 hours after changing them. I would like to continue to use filter socks b/c of how well they poish the water, but I am not sure I can with the ecobak. I realize that I can get higher micron socks. like 200 micron, but I am not sure how much this would help. Also, I do not know how much good a sock higher than 200 micron would do in terms of polishing the water. Anyone else having this problem or have any suggestions?

I had this happen to me for a short while, In my case it passed and no longer happens on a regular basis. It is excess Bacteria being caught in the filter i believe and causing this reaction, As the nutrients dissapate you will see less of this going on. JMO

I agree here with poolkeeper 100%. I used the EB and followed mfg directions and as well have gotten excellent results.

Has anyone notice any tunicate growth that may seem attributed to the addition of these pellets? I have more than a few new tunicates that seem to be popping up near where my pellet reactor water's output is placed...

Same here ... socks dont clog anymore

Anybody run into a problem where these pellets killed their skimmer functionality? I've been running 125ml of these pellets in a TLF150 reactor attached to a maxi-jet 900 for two days now, and ever since putting it online my Tunze 9011 skimmer refuses to form a foam head. I've cleaned the cup, as well as moving the reactor output farther away from the skimmer intake (thinking too much turbulence), but still no go. I get froth but no foam head climbing the neck.

get a 5 gallon bucket, fill it with water, add vinegar, place your skimmer in the bucket, remove the air adjustment screw if you have one and let the skimmer run over night. rinse it off, once done and place back into your sump.
I had a similar issue with my tunze 9010. was not due to the use of pellets but i suspect your skimmer may just be a little clogged.
after contacting tunze, this was the solution they gave me and it worked great. too bad that was my last resort instead of my first. stupid me tried modding it, to raise the water level in the skimmer, instead of contacting them first.

Turned out to be a false alarm.. Under closer inspection the snorkle/extension pipe on the Tunze 9011 had come loose from the body, probably when I had wedged the reactor outlet up against the skimmer intake. Jammed it back in and it's skimming like a beast again. Great skimmer, just quirky in it's design/operation.

Where do you guys recommend putting your reactor output?

Skimmer area?
Return area?
Fuge area?

As close to the intake of your Skimmer as you can get it, Without interfering with it's operation. This will give you the best results from the pellets.

Great news, after about 1 month of using the product I am already seeing changes for the better. All of the green cyano I was getting on the rocks and sand has disappeared, also I am getting way less brown algae in the sand.
As for the corals, all of the sps and lps seem really happy. Most of the softies seem great too except for a devils hand, and pulsing sinularia. I am not too concerned, I'm sure they will come around.
The skimmer is skimming more than ever, and the water appears very clean.
