Was I crazy buying this?

A few weeks back, on the way to another reefer's house to pick up a sunset, I bought the a single polyp aussie acan for $45, which is by far the most expensive polyp I ever bought. Unfortunately, the store did not do a good fragging job of the polyp, and half of the bone structure was crashed, and the flesh on the crashed bone structure felt off shortly after arriving home. Knowing the half polyp costed me 45 big ones, I took good care of it, and brought it back to health.

I really like the blinding red color, but is wondering if I am out of my mind spending $45 on half a polyp. I know some of you will tell me that it is worth it since I like it, but I really like to know if YOU will spend so much money for it.

Here is the polyp today

I also bought some cheap bleached out deep water acros while buying the acan, and they turn out to have really good colors. Here are a couple (the real colors are better than what are shown in the pics).

By the way, I was on my way picking up this one when I bought the acan.

nice looking corals.. really like the acan.. what lighting was that taken under ? And we have some Japanese acans.. you don't want to know how much we paid for them :). Once yours has some pups maybe we can trade :)

Tong,
There is a store that sell aussie's stuff a lot cheaper than a lot of stores. The thing is he doesn't sell polyp. He sells the whole colony. Most of the stuff gone within one hour. There is another shipment coming in July. If you want to order some, PM me. remember you have to be there when the stuff come in.

Thanks Thirschmann and Tom.

The pics were taken with 250w 12k Reeflux and PC actinic. Given the way you put it, I definitely do not want to know the price of the Japanese Acans (good to know there are more crazy reefer friends out there :)). Definitely interested in trading once it starts having puppies :).

Too bad on the crushed skeleton. They didn't use a diamond blade?

No worries though. Lords come back easily, and grow fast, so you'll have plenty of heads soon enough :)

For $45 a polyp, I'd probably try to trade for some rather than buy outright. But that is a nice one. I saw some that weren't nearly as bright as yours.

I did see some in the $60-$80 range that I possibly would buy outright if I couldn't trade. They had nice colors as well, but additionally had bright contrasting highlight streaks from the center. Maybe 4 or more colors in the polyp.

4 colors in one polyp? Wow, now you guys are getting me itchy again :D. Norman, do you have some pics?

They did use a power tool to cut (I did not pay attention if he used a diamond blade or not), but didn't do a very clean job :(.

Oh BTW, you are not crazy. I paid $40 for one polyp of PPE. It's is much smaller than your acan  ..

Hi Tong,

Check out the ones on Clint's site:

http://www.diamondsinthereef.com/NewReleases.html

Some of those are too gaudy for my preferences, but there are some coming in that look like these:

but have orange, yellow, and green highlights in the center too.

Check out Matt's at www.reefready.net

I like the one he calls Afterburner:

Also Atlantis:

I'd like to see what shows up that's considered rare and nice among the Aussie lords. Right now, lots of the stuff is nice compared to what we usually get. That's for sure :)

Phong, after you sell all your stuff, you'll have enough money to buy a colony of Aussie lords :D

Heheh.... Tong and I will babysit them for you until you start another tank. Our rates are very reasonable :D

Thanks Wayland. I bought it from Aquaticbliss about 3 weeks ago, and have not been back there since it is so far away from me. They had quite a few Aussie acans at that time.
