Was I too mean here?

Karl, I love my reef tank and I know that it is not the greatest gift in the reefing world, but I know that. Sometimes people take offense to what people say because they might believe that their stuff might not stink. The comparison picture was one of comparsion only. That is how I see it. That is one problem about humans communicating through a device that not allow any tone or nonverbal expressions. I have learned through past experience on message boards that one person may mean no harm and the person taking harm is now out for blood. Like my grandmother once told me, "Sometimes it is better to know you are right, rather than prove to someone else that they were wrong".

Carl,

I think you did a fine Job presenting the data, and conflicting data was found to pad someones argument.

One thing I have discovered in my short time in this hobby there is no absolute best way to do anything.

John

90% of communication is done through tone, cadence and body language....none of which are visible through this medium.

Combine this with some may have reading comprehension problems, or completly organizing a thought completely before responding is another problem. Though I doubt this is the problem in this case.

Preconceived notion, biases and internal dialog play a part in "forum" discussions as well.

I know this all to well and is the EXACT reason I have longer than average replies to fully explain myself by spelling things out and using metaphors and a little humor to break up the tone.

I just read the thing quickly, but can see that from his point of view that you may be trying to "steal his thunder" or "take the wind out of his sails".......I think his pride was hurt a little and it could be interpreted as you "raining on the parade" and being a "hater". Neverless a great looking Milli and I think he is looking for a little respect in finding something unique.......

I think you were stating "buyer beware" and "that if it looks too good to be true, it probably is."

Color perception is everything it seems and there are just too many variables get into an arguement about it.......I am willing to bet the lights are a major factor in the hue in that pic and you were just trying to point that out.........heck if I posted a pic of a coral and somebody was trying to say.....it will vary from tank to tank ,light to light like everything else does.........I would be thankful rather than frag off a bunch to people and have em mad cuz they didn't get the same piece they thought they were getting.

However, knowing your character Karl......I am sure if its really that bright you will be the first to say so. And you know if it is you will NEVER live it down...........so just in case, post a pic of the echinata and say: "Now thats what a blue coral is supposed to look like"......... Just kidding!!!

Those tips under the 10K Reeflux do a pop more than the 14K Ushio.

Ahhh Drama......glad its not on our forum for once!!!!

Better yet, offer to trade him a frag and find out for yourself?

Thanks, guys!

I don't try to pretend that I know more than anyone. I really don't know jack****, though. I just approach this hobby like the 'turtle and the hare' and take everything in stride.

I did use this bulb briefly, and hated it when I realized how off the colors were. It would be really unethical for, say, an online vendor, to represent blue acros under this bulb.

I'll try not to say anymore.

karl, you basically are stating your experiences with that particular bulb. there isn't anything wrong with that. lets get a few frags of that blue milli up here to experiment :D

Im sure someone around here is on a list for a frag around here, at least so I hear. I am sure we will see it in the flesh eventually.

Karl,

I for one appreciate differing views on the forums. If there is one thing I have learned thus far when it comes to reefing, is that just about everybody has an opinion and the magic of reefkeeping is not so well understood that there is only one answer to anything. I think you presented a well articulated opinion and right or wrong, you did one hell of a job representing it and that is much more than can be said for most. Keep the great info coming, many of us are listening. ;)

Karl, if you stop being a jerk, people may listen. :D

I have no experience with Reeflux, but I have hear this before.

Each MH bulb has certain characteristics.

I can be a ***** sometimes. Probably just pent up frustration, as I haven't been buying any expensive, overpriced frags lately:lol:

Is there anything left for you to buy?

There's all that LPS out there. I once considered getting one of those Watermelon frags that everyone's been clamoring for, but there are too many 'morphs' of it now, that I can't decide if I want one anymore.

Maybe I'll wait for the LE Seedless Watermelon:p

Karl,

I wished I had read your post before I purchased my XM 20K bulbs. I might have gone with Reeflux bulb, and then all brown corals could have been labelled as "blue." ;-)

BTW, you'll never be happy with the LE Seedless Watermelon. You need to wait until they come out with the cube version.

:D

Karl, I've seen them all in person. The ones worth getting are the Original LE pink and the Original LE Red. Those two corals glow like Chernobyl. I think you'd be happy with either.

If I had to chose one, I'd go with the Red Watermelon. I saw them in Hugo's tank before his crash. The red one was more vivid and intense.

LOL, Minh! It would be nice to have a morph that was seedless, square, and perforated for easy fragging.

I don't know, Hector. I don't think I have the lights to fully appreciate the LPS. Would the watermelon's colors show under just my white bulb and no actinic?

I'm glad you all enjoyed my contribution to that thread.

When PUG posted the pic of his beautiful mille, and acknowledged that 'something in the Reeflux spectrum does cause blues to "pop" a little more than most other bulbs', that was good enough for me. Very cool of him to do.

I didn't want to detract people from using this bulb. Just make people aware of its capabilities;)
