I currently have a 75 but am redoing it, after wanting to do more but being limited by certant things. i have this thread on different forums hoping to get ideas and suggestions from others. So comments, critiques are all welcome.

Tank- 75 gallon drilled for CL and for sump drain.
Sump/Refuge- Being built by spaquatics.com 38x17x17
Skimmer- Octopus 200nw
Return pump- Q1 4000
CL pump- Reeflo Dart- 3600gph
Lighting- Coralife Aqualight 2 150wat HQI 10k
2 reactors- carbon and phosphate media
UV- 8 watt coralife, may upgrade.
Ozone- Been looking into a lot this week.
I plan on using a Ocean Motions i think its the super squirt 2 way for my return. And maybe later on a OM 4way for the close loop.

Planning on mostly SPS and LPS and some others little things.

the current stock list includes:

about 100 lbs of live rock
100 lb of live sand
yellow tang, 2 tomato clowns, mated pair small one large, 2 foot snow flake(Nessy) lots of snails and hermits, need to get another six line i don't know what happened to my last one. need a cleaner shrimp. I am sure i have other stock in my tank now i just can not think of it.

And i will be transferring a few corals over on moving day.

build time line is few weeks, sump will be ready soon, and i am doing a closed loop test this week.

nice i like it a lot, yeah i spent a few months going back and forth on the pumps and all, i am stressing about the aquascaping now because i have LOTS of rock in my current tank and it looks good in there, but i have a lot of dead spots so i am hoping with the dart pushing water around and the huge overflow it should keep the bad stuff floating and into the sump so the filtration will take care of it.

oh not that exciting but i am going to be running a 300 watt titainium heater, and i have a fan that keep it cool, i put duck tape over my thermostat at home so no one can adjust the temp, house stays at 72ish and the tank is at 77.5 sometimes 78.5

Trust me unless that dart can produce movement it won't help, i got a friend using i think a hammer on a 210 with the ocean motion and still there is detrius everywhere until he added a vortech then things changed.

what do you mean produce movement?? not being smart just confused about that comment--i think 3600 gph plus another 1000 off the return pump, so i am looking at about 4600 gph, and the closed loop exits are at the bottom pushing up and another 2 up top. So i am hoping that the detrius does not settle, thats another reason why i am thinking of how to set up the rocks, i am also going to have a HUGE army of cleaners.

Movement as in waves/current because if it just shoots out then really it won't help but it should keep sand clean until you get a vortech but yes have a huge army of cleaners especially brittle stars

i plan on using an ocean motion 4 way on the closed loop and ocean motion 2way squirt of the return, i don't want any power heads in the tank. thanks though.

do you run vortech on you tanks, because i think they look cool and all and i am sure work well, but do not think they are the ONLY way to go in a reef tank for good water movement, i have seen tons of people with just some maxi jets or a CL that just pushes water around and it works good for them. My local fish store, uses a Q1 6000 as their main pump pushing water up at the four corners and they have no problems-best tanks in VA. Thanks for the comments but you sound like a vortech rep, why don't you use them in your tank?

UPDATE!!!! have the sump and the tank is drilled. moving right along, the sump was made perfectly to my size and looks really sharp!!! thanks SP!!

i am still working out where and how i want the flow patterns in the tank, the lock line gives me more options then i could have imagined. the return will be over the middle brace using 2 3/4inch lock line pieces to divert the flow from side to side.

no i do not run em (too broke ) but a friend does that told me about this also i wouldn't buy one myself because after some review tunze's is the way to go IMO

yeah those are both very cool, i am going to be unwrapping the sump in the next day, i was trying to keep it clean and all before setting it up. I also bought 2 new 2 little fishes reactors, one for carbon, and the other for rowaphos or whatever its called. I forgot the name of the carbon i am using but it is the stuff that last a week or so longer and does not leach phosphates back into the water.

do any of you think that that intake for my closed loop might make for too much suction, and pull sand or fish or maybe my eel into it. I was thinking of maybe a T with strainers on each side, and drilling holes in the T itself to make the suction not as intense. what do you think.

I think you'll be fine. I'm running a dart on my 75 as well and I'm not having any suction problems. Infact, snails and crabs crawl all over the strainer and I've never had any problems.

As far as the closed loop, my return is very similar with the exception of 1/2" returns. The flow is great and I have really no dead spots, with the exception of behind the rock in one area. A decent clean up crew will take care of that though.
