was my 75 build nows its my 110 tall

thanks...i know i am....but i just was like my new tank was the least expensive out of everything i have bought for the upgrade....and think i am going to be a lot happier with the bigger tank...i know my fish will. and i should have enough rock do do some cool stuff...and allow a nice about of swimming room. I looked a 150gallon tall but it would look out of place in my house...and would stick out too far from the wall....and my stand is only 18 wide so thats another reason...and i don't want that much weight on the floors lol.

stay tunned.....i am thinking of exchanging my return pump to the high head model to get about 755 of 800 gph...instead of the 650 or 700 i would get out of a reg quiet one 4000 with a 5 feet head loss.

yeah pricing was a main thing...i can not drop 1000 more into this...other things come first...but i could spare 380 for the 110...and even though i know acrylic looks nice it still scares me. the foot print is the same as a 75....48x18x just 30 or 31 inches high lol. And a 75 will not fit under my stand....lol or else i would have used my 75 when i was going to switch the 2. But my sump is 38x17x17 so it should handle my 110 just fine...and i am happy i bought the big skimmer now. In the future after the tank is up and running i will upgrade my UV and the halides months down the road. keep the comments coming...i love seeing what you all think about this change.

i will do that...how are you at drilling.....i might not be able to afford jeff drilling all the holes again lol....thats the only thing i regret....all those holes drilled on the 75...but at least i have the bulk heads and thats like 50 plus bucks.

I have never drilled glass. Sorry man. I wouldnt try it on anyones tank but my own...haha.

If you dont have a need for the 75 you just drilled maybe you can give it to jeff to save some $ on drilling ;)

Anything to save some $$$.

Oh and as for lights Jeff has the coralvue balasts for around $150 for a 250w and I think the 400w is only $20 more ;)

yeah i think i will go with 400w lights later down the road....maybe with those cool hex reflectors....but thats a waaayyyyyyyyssssssssss down the road loo

Congrats on the new tank paulie. Now I might just get mine done before you after all. Just throw the tank in the car and drive down the road to AZ. Ill drill it for ya.... free.

i changed return pumps from the Q1 4000 to the Q1 4000 high head to make the climb....my stand is higher then most also.

I am now re thinking my aquascape ideas now....i have seen some 90 gallons that i like and i might do 2 hill/peak things or a drop down....with the SPS on the rocks and some leathers or something in the sand. Still undecided and am looking at some 110 tanks to get ideas....

more to come soon.....tank will be here in a week and will be drilled then too....i think i am going to drill 2 2inch holes this time for the dart intake so limit the suction so nothing gets pulled to it....might just make me feel better. Oh and i have to order the OM 4 way in the next week or so also.

was a 75 now its the 110 tall

was a 75 now its the 110 tall

so last night as i was trying to go to sleep i always think about my tank and i was thinking....instead of the OM 4way what if i just bought a vortech power head later down the road with the wireless device for it.

My thinking is i can get equal flow from my dart if i drill 4 holes in the back of the tank and use the right plumbing...very simple....but i can get a little way motion and randomize the flow more so then with the OM 4way. IF i had unlimited funds i would just at a 4way, a 2way thing for the return and 2 vortech power heads lol but i don't have that kinda money.

a om 4 way is 389 and i do no like the idea of sand or anything getting into it and having to undo it do clean it and such.

the vortech is 419 i think plus another 100 for the wireless device and i could add that later on down the road.

what do you all think.

I could have the new tank up in 2 weeks i think if i go the no om 4 way route and add the vortech later...not too later but a week weeks. I like it has so many modes and feeding mode sounds cool.

comments always welcome....i know people like OM 4way and i know others like those power heads.....i also like the powerheads because they are so small and blend in.

thanks again
matt

not trying to bump this for the heck of it but want to see what you all think so i can order one or the other tomorrow....i know people like and have feelings for both....but now with the bigger tank i am wondering if i will need more flow....so i am thinking about adding a vortec power head instead of the OM 4way on my dart.

Lurker until now haha
I don't know about a vortec power head, but I have only good things to say about the Koralia #4's lots of flow, widespread, and low maintenance.

ok good deal...i think the main reason i am leaning towards the vortech now is because its sleekness....i have heard good things about koralia 4 also.

thanks for the reply fish boy....i used to have cichlids too.....and the cold water tank you have sounds cool

Hi Paulie,
I can't comment on 4-ways, but I have the K4's and they rock. I ordered two K1's to add to the back of my setup as well. The K4 moves a lot of water and I can guess it's flow pattern after it runs for a bit. It sends out a flow pattern that seems to have four higher points and I rotate the powerhead until it hits where I want. Just watch as it moves your sand around pretty good - at least it does that for me. I did have the flow concentrator on one for a while but I liked the wider pattern so I took it off. Dr Fosters has a good price on them right now.

Good luck with the build.

thanks for the reply ramppantmarine...well i think i have ruled the 4 way out...i have talked with some others...and even though its nice i don't think i would like having to maintance it once and awhile....i like the set it and forget it things if though those are far and few between with this hobby.

thanks for the comments
matt

Update.....Vortech mp40 i think thats the model number with the wireless controller and quiet one 4000 high head ordered....as well as the tank last Tuesday so all should be here in about 4 or 5 days....then drill it....make a overflow....i do not think i am going to do a full 48inch overflow like i have with my 75. just a corner one up in the top...with 2 1 inch holes or maybe 1.25 inch holes to bring water down to the skimmer and then one to the refuge....still planning that but will have LOTS of new pictures next week so stay tunned.

can any mods change my title to -------was a 75 gallon build now its the 110tall. ------- if so that would be sweet. i confuse myself when i keep seeing my new 75 lol.

thanks
matt

Thanks! The cold water is fun, I catch local species and grow them out, I had a stripper then a few baby blue fish. They all got big, and had to go back home. Still have some baby blue claws in there and about 65 local snails. They all live under the sand until the food hits the water. Cichlids are sweet, fighting a lot recently, possible breeding parents so I could imagine. Both my Electric Blue Hap Ahli's and my Frontosa... in the same tank, talk about aggressive tank. Loving the progress = need pics!
