Was wondering?

Hello all,

I am very new to all this and posted awhile back about getting a tank going etc. Got the book that was suggested to me and reading it as we speak. I have a long long way to go ;).

But in my other thread a few of you kind members were willing to allow me to see your tank setups and maybe ask some questions if possible. Looking for some setups that have the whole tech stuff under the tank so to speak. I just realized that sounds dumb :o . But thats the best way to describe it for me as I don't know many of the proper terms or what there called. Still learning.. :)

Wouldn't stay long just looking for some insight is all. Plan on building a 90 gallon coral tank with as many different corals as possible.

Would like to start buying some high quality equipment but have no idea what I need for a tank that size. Nor would I know what to get.

I'm getting my stand and canopy custom built starting next week hopefully. I looked at some filters at the LFS but had no idea what to get.. :D

So if there are any members willing to let me view their tanks and maybe talk to them feel free to PM me or post and go from there. I learn more from visual then reading. ;)

Thanks...

if your ever in the elmira area your more than welcome to stop by and look at my tank. im sure there are a few others here that wouldnt mind giving you a tour of their systems!

Since you are doing a larger tank, I am going to suggest a little tour that I feel would be worth while. I think you should do an Endwell/Endicott/Vestal tour. In fact, I haven't seen most of these in 6 months or so either so I might even join you. We are all within a few minutes of each other and we all have varying skill levels (mine being the lowest of course) :)

Now...I am speaking for these guys, so they would obviously have to give the ok, but knowing them a little, I doubt they would object.

Coming from Whitney Point (right?), here's what I suggest:

You would head south on 81 and then 17 west. Take the Endwell Exit off 17C W where you can hit Jerry's (drbronx) first. He is right in Endwell. Then, from there you head west a little more to hit Adam's (Paizzon12) in Endicott. From there you can hit mine across the river in western Vestal and then lastly you can head back East to Dave and Carrol's (thepircs), which is about 10 minutes up the Vestal Pkw.

You can see at least 4 larger tanks (all with slightly different set-ups)...I am sure there are many more, but these 4 will give you a good idea of what to look for.

If anyone has any other ideas...please chime in.

Let me know when you would like to come by.

Oh shoot...I didn't even think...you could stop and see Nate in Bingo on the way in, or the way out...and even Vince's if you wanted to see a smaller tank.

Based on Frank's suggested tour route, I would be after the Pircs and before Nate.

Heck yeah! I'm in for a little tour. That would be awesome. :D Lets set something up like that if possible. You all would be doing me a favor so I can travel at your convenience. I travel to Endicott everyday for work. So I'm available anytime after 3:00pm weekdays or on weekends. :D I'll bring my notepad for taking all those notes!

Now for a side note.. I keep looking on the main page under dry goods for sale. Seems according to posters that there are good deals to be had. But I can say when I read all the posts, I'm like what the heck is that and do I need it? And further more is it good quality and is it for a 90 gallon tank setup?

So much to learn... but I look forward to it.

Come on Frank...You have a really nice system. Just because its not a tank full of sps doesn't mean its not good or your skill level is low. Your tank hearkens back to reef keeping about 10 years ago. I actually miss that look. Tanks in that day had more "life" to them. Things weren't all about crazy sps. They were about flowy things.

I took this tour with Kent a year ago or so. I had a ton of fun. Other than that my wife got mad at me for being out so late. Made work tough the next day too.

Neoz, if you ever get out this way I'm sure I could line up a few tanks for you to look at too. Including Kent's 1k gallon reef.

bosborn1 thanks for the link for the 90 build I'll check it out. I clicked your red house for your website but seems the link isn't working.

Thanks for the offers to look at tanks not in my area but I believe after the tour around here my head will be ready to explode with the wealth of information I can gather from these knowledgeable members.

Yeah my site is no longer up.

Since you got the link I went ahead and edited that post...I think RC got mad the last time I tried to link to their.

Perhaps we can set something up one of these days.

I have a 90 and live in Vestal if you would like to see it. Could use some suggestions from the experts as the bubble algae is starting to take over. I had to take my skimmer off line because it overflows and spills on the floor. I need to design a tube from the collection cup to the sump to collect the waste. This would then have the overflow going back into the sump. Just not sure how to connect the hose and drill and collection cup.
