The city of Austin will reimburse you the cost of up to (2) 90g rain barrels, perfect for storing your waste water to use later for watering your yard and flower beds.
It's bad because of the DI process. DI water actually dehydrates you, and consuming a little less than a gallon in a 24 hour period can potentially be fatal from what I've read.
our house runs off a cistern (we capture rain water and re-use it) so in the summer i have the waist water run underground back to the cistern. therefore zero wast.

Guys...lets be reasonable about the fear of DI water!!!
I have been drinking RO/DI water for YEARS..... and - according to my wife and friends - I AM NOT DEAD!!!!!
And the enamel on my teeth is fine, not whitened any more than before either.
All you need remember is: RO/DI is simply PURE water... If you are eating, or drinking anything else during the course of your day - you are getting the electrolytes (minerals mostly) that would have been in the water ( along with all the pollutants) prior to it being run thru the RO/DI.

wow great idea cliff, u never told me that. we have been installing water harvesting systems for years and never did we run any of our ro or ro/di units to them.
I usually use the waste water for laundry or watering the orchids. The good thing for laundry is that I can do two runs of the water per wash . So I save a lot more money that way. (Especially when most washers use cold water now instead of hot )

hi ty fancy meeting you here; yeah it works awesome in the summer but not so great in the winter (the hose freezes) but i do plan on putting it below the frost line next year but for now at least i get to salvage all that water in the spring/summer/fall.
