watanabe angel

thinking of adding a Watanabe Angel to my reef. anyone have any experience with these angels? i have read that they are considered reef safe.....

I personally have never kept one, but know others who have. They are generally reef safe (as much as can be) because they only eat free floating material from the water column so it is against their nature to eat coral or anything else like that. However, if underfed they could do anything, but I'd give a guarantee that they won't touch corals. At least, I'd bet money on that and most fish I wouldn't do that on.

I did take care of a female swallowtail for a time (same genus) while someone was making changes to their tank and it never even looked at corals. Also didn't like nori, but was a model citizen.

I have had two Watanabe females, I had one come down with Ich & die and the other had a bad swim bladder. (she lasted for four months before the condition took her life) The second WA made it to my display tank for a couple of months and she never bothered any of my corals.:thumbsup:

a hardier (IMO) Genicanthus angel would be the LaMarck angel. a bit cheaper too.

I have two females. They have not bothered any coral and have been in the tank (180 gal) for almost a year.

My experience is that males "ship difficult" and that if you want a pair, they must be added together. No issues with corals.
