Watanabei Angelfish damaged fins

I wouldn't buy the fish, it appears that all the fins are beat up which would lead me to believe that it wasn't from aggression

I think I'm going to pass. Beautiful fish though. lfs selling for only $40.

Thanks for the response.

40$ is a deal but the fins being beat up makes me question the health of the fish. If it was aggression the fish would be hiding in a corner and not out swimming around

It seems like aggression fighting wounds to me. I have had watanabe in all of my tanks and as long as they don't display gull bladder issue (swimming with heads down) due to decompression process, they are very hardy and will do just fine. And my angels have all experienced some damage from rough play and they have always recovered.

At 40 that is a steal. The fins should recover fine. My female jumped out. I just got another for 100. I thought that was cheap

Fish prices are weird. Thinking it depends in location. When I bought mine I paid $30 a piece. I know a lfs in Cali that sells a pair of bellus angels for $150. Over here I. New York the male alone costs that if not more

Ya no kidding on prices if that was local I would be in my car right now, they are triple that here and never look any better either.

I'd grab it- you know, if I had a tank for one. Minimal fin damage that doesn't look like a disease, looks plump, clear eyes, no other warning signs... Just be sure to QT it on the tiny chance it's something else.

For 100 dollars, I got a larger female but head and stomach pinched. She is gaining weight for the 5 days that she is in my tank. I am sure that in about 4 weeks I hav eher plum up. That small female pictured by the OP seem great. If she is local to me I would have added her to my tank.

Not a clear picture but you can see the pinched head. The stomach nolonger pinch with feeding.

Looks nice, they are hardier than most people give them credit for (in the right system). I am sure it will look nice and plump in no time. Mine is almost as wide as it high, like a torpedo
