Watch those groilla crabs...

I've been working on ridding my TBS live rock of gorilla crabs since it arrive 6 months ago. Removed about 6-8 so far with only 2-3 more left. One I removed also had a brood of eggs by the tail. But no sign of any young yet and its been about 2 months since I removed the female. They like to steal food right from the corals mouths....No good #$@%^! Never the less, the TBS rock is the best....still loaded with life !

Today my wife noticed that her maxima clam was not on the rock. when looking for it sh saw it being pulled under a rock by the gorilla that I have been trying to get rid of for weeks.

He does not come out where i can grab him. Has any one had luck useing the crab trap made from a water bottle?

Thanks. sorry to hijack this thread but thought every one might like to know.

crab trap works well . problem is it almost works too well . you will trap lots off stuff ya want to keep in the tank.

Man, I can't wait to get a shipment of TBS liverock...Gorilla Crabs?
I hhoe that I get a bunch, as I can't seem to find cheap crabs anywhere to serve as cheap food for my Mantis Shrimp.
Sorry to hear that these guys cause so much trouble.

SUPER SAD FACE! I just spotted my 3rd Gorrilla crab in 2days. Should i kill them in the tank or try to get him out alive?

Killing them in the tank seems OK to me, if you can accomplish that. I pulled most of mine out, then squashed them and threw them back in the tank as snacks. They never lasted very long long. There serpant stars in particular seemed to be johhny-on-the-spot when a dead gorilla was introduced

As in all your finer horror movies though, don't turn your back on them until you're POSITIVE they're really dead.

I called today and got a message that they were out of rock, then got an email that they got rock in today, the first rock in weeks the email said.

Today was the first day we have been able to harvest rock in weeks. We were killed by hurricanes all of September and some of October.

Then front after front swept through Florida , preventing diving.
We tried yesterday and there was 6-8 foot seas and zero vis, today was 4-5 foot seas and about three foot of vis. We have tried many days in the last few weeks, today was the first day that conditions allowed us to dive.

Rest assured that we want that rock as much as all of you, but am not going to risk our lives in unsuitable conditions, as we are older and smarter now.

It will only take a few days of good weather for us to be fully stocked and on top of things again, everybody hang in there, rock is on the way.

Has been a tough weather year for us, as if it is too rough to dive, there is nothing you can do about it. I wish harvesting live rock was easy as going to the store for a gallon of milk, but it is not so easy.

In the 30 years we have been doing this we have never had such bad weather in one season, but things are looking up this week, weatherwise.

Needless to say we will be underwater everyday that we can!
