So I started a 96 hour shift at work today. It so happens I checked my tank around 2pm from my iphone to see things are just not right. My apex lost connection with the eb8's. This means everything is in fallback mode. My wife confirmed the eb8's are blinking green. Unfortunately my wife won't be home unitl 8 tonite. So hopeully the temp won't go down to much, until she can switch outlets. I am still up in the air about the lights. I think my corals will be fine with lights out for 4 days. I could have her put in a manual light timer if the corals might not do well. I am holding back my opinions about the apex. I do miss the old aquacontrollers with the phone line control, never had an issue with them.

It looks like i dodged a bullet. The wife got home and switched the return, skimmer, litermeter 3 to a power strip. She also plugged the light into a manual timer. The temp got down to 73 degrees. I am definitely putting all essential items on a power strip. Some of the apex's fallback settings did not work. This is disappointing when you spend hundreds on a controller that is supposed to keep the tank safe. I am going to call neptune to see if they can log onto my controller and run some diagnosis on it. I have been having issues with the emi that is being generated from the M80 ballast. Thanks for letting me vent. I hope others learn from my experience to ensure their tanks are safe.

Today I got home and called up neptune to have them log into my controller and see what went wrong. Needless to say I had a bunch of corrupt items. We traced this back to the EMI that my MH ballast was emitting. This is what we thought was the issue. The ballast is about 8 years old. The guys from neptune said as these ballast age they emit more and more EMI. I figured it was a good time to upgrade to an electronic ballast. I ended up purchasing a selectowatt from lumatek. I hope this solves my issue. By the way the tank has done fine so far!

That's neat that we can check our tanks away from home now. 15 years ago i had a 750 reef built into my at home office wall. Was i my mind all day out in the field would amost run when i got home
lol To make sure it was OK... iN 3+ YEARS never had one problem then a seam in my 100 gallon refugium came apart and the level drop 1/3 down. Lost everything under 5 400 watt MHs on all day
This build i will monitor too!

Its not hard setting up the net at all. Look under the neptune systems in the sponsor area and you will find a user manual. It is not made by neptune, just an avid reefer and electronic guru. It spells everything out. I almost think that we all depend on technology to much these days. I love my controller for some things and then others I prefer to have it on power stips with manual timers. Nothing is a guarantee these days. Having the ability to look at the web and see how your tank is doing is one of those things I love about my controller.

I've enjoyed my switch to the switchable Lumatek. No problems. I think you'll like it. I run one of the old AC3s and the only issues have been an outlet basically going dead on a DC8 and the occassional resetting of the month's data before the end of the month. I had some troubles setting up my controller, but I also setup a game adapter at the same time to complicate things a bit. My work has me on the road a decent amount right now so I'm glad the server is up.
