Watchman goby question

Is the female yellow watchman goby gray with blue spots? I picked up one over the weekend and It paired with my large yellow one. I've just heard conflicting views on whether or not the female is yellow or gray.

Thanks Mike! That was really helpful

No prob. Was busy that day and just posted a link and bolted. lol.

You are very lucky to have a pair. I was looking to buy a mated pair but hit a lot of dead ends in my search. I was using the coloration to identify the differences when window shopping at the LFS.

I finally ended up with just one fish and its a randall prawn goby.

I've been looking for a female for awhile now. I was lucky too that they immediately paired up in my male's burrow without a fight. I'll try and get a pic of them hanging out side by side.

That's cool. I'll have too keep a look out for a female watchman. My yellow watchman could use a friend in his burrow. All my fish have a friend except my watchman. 2 clowns, 2 tangs, 2 wrasses and the lonely goby :)

I saw him today pull a chuck of nori into his burrow.

FTW. Get a pistol shrimp!

I actually picked up a pistol shrimp months ago and it didn't want to pair up with my watchman. It has its own burrow and I hear it clicking away every night..

My "yellow" watchman goby is in the process of changing to female. They're dimorphic. Once the transition is complete, I'll pick up another (male) and try my luck at bonding.

Notice the white beginning to appear:
