1) I saw a nice yellow watchman goby at the LFS today, and I am thinking about taking it home. I am wondering if they deplete live sand beds. The species is Crytocentrus cinctus, and can be seen in TRAv1 p.217. I figure it is more likely to dig one hole and occupy a little territory rather than going out all hours to sift the substrate for food(read: stuff I want to keep).

Let's see if I remember how to post a picture.

2) I am also going to get it in conjunction with a small yellow tang(have to keep the yellow color scheme going here). I don't think the two will fight since they are very different types of fish. does anyone have any experinces that tells otherwise?

Thanks in advance.

IMO, there great! Mins hasnt done any digging. he has his little shelter and dosent venture far from it. He is a little skittish though.

Hey De; My yellow watchman is the oldest in my tank. He has been there over 5 years. Eats every thing he can catch going by. Does not venture to far from his house and will defend it by a threatning motion to other fish if necc. No other fish pay any attention to him.
Does not eat from the sandbed that I have noticed. He also does not dig but hides under a rock and sort of makes a little hollow. I believe thats why they live with shrimp in the wild as they are to stupid to dig there own houses. I once had a orange spotted diamond and when he dug his house the yellow moved right in beside him. Love at first sight I guess.
All in all a good inhabitant in my tank.

Hi dendronepthya,

I had a really nice yw goby which I never saw eat anything but the foods (flake, frzn. brine, formula one & two) that I fed the other fish. He was somewhat shy and liked to share a cave with my two cleaner shrimp. He was a fairly aggressive feeder and was not shy when feeding time came around though. I do not have a sandbed but I do have crushed coral and still had a very large amount of critters in my substrate and swimming around after the lights went out.

HTH

Doug
