water change help

I have a new tank going thru a cycle and I ran out of salt, I have several local stores that carry it but none of them carry reef crystrals which is what is in it now.

My question is can I switch brands and do a water change? My order from foster/smith is due here tomorrow, so its most likely a one time deal.

I have tbs rock and there is a ton of life on the rocks and in the tank, I dont want to hurt anything

If you were closer I'd give you some salt, I am using Reef Crystals right now. Maybe someone closer uses Reef Crystals and can give you some?

You could do a waterchange with a new salt mix without a problem. I would personally wait for the new salt to do the water change, if the tank is still cycling it can't hurt anything.

Leaving in a couple hours, staying downtown tonight and going to see Tom Petty, really need to get this done before I go.

Ammonia is Just over 1 and Fedex sent my salt to NY for whatever reason and it is just now back in Ohio.

I really dont think it would hurt much but wanted to get a second opinion.


Thanks Colin, I just dont want to take a chance that the Ammonia will spike to something crazy while I am away tonight. I will wait till 11am when some of the lfs's open and see what they carry, maybe I'll get lucky.
