hi im using mag9.5 pump for my water changes ( every 3 weeks or so ) my question is whats is the proper way of storing it between the water changes , since i got the pump 4 months ago after water change i just put it on a shelf and it sits there till next water change. recently i bought a Mag 18 from a fellow reefer only to discovered the inpeller on that pump was all corroded and full of rust he told me it was sitting in his garage for more than a year unused. so what has worked for you ? do you soak the pump in tap?/salt? water when pump is unused ?

I just store my water change pumps in a barrel in the garage with the rest of my equipment. I use them every 2 weeks.

Not really.
What problems are you concerned about?

If you let them lay around for a year, yeah I'd rinse it out a test fire it in a bucket of freshwater.
I believe most quality pumps use a good quality stainless steel shafts that shouldn't rust and the rest should be plastic..

i was just conserned since i got that mag 18 with shaft all corroded but since i use mine every 3 weeks i should be ok than

i can see small amounts of rust on mine, but its not pitted just a very small ring of red in one area . never been a promlem that i can see or measure,IMO i just ignore it . any other input or opinions would be cool .

I think I might get a hold of a few places that sell mag parts and see if a new shaft could be bought.
Or just take some steel wool and clean it up as best as possible.

i think that its a steel shaft that has been coated with stainless steel and it kinda wears off after a while . not sure though ,just my opinion .
