Water change?

My new anemone has parked himself in upper corner of the tank and I need to do a water change. Should I try to move him first or just change the water and let hang there while I do water change?

You don't want too expose anything to gravity that fills itself with water. If its filled with water & left to hang then he could rip himself. That goes for any coral also that fills itself.

I have had the same thing happen. I would just do your water change quickly. Anemones can be out of the water. I've seen them in tide pools at low tide they are exposed for hours. i think before it rips, it'll move or let go. If it makes you feel better...remove it and place it lower. It is easy to remove them from the glass.

if an anemone would let go prior to ripping, we wouldnt know of it. That is just not the case... While the animals recognize stress, they do not have muscular reflexes like ours and wont jump out of the way of a moving car or off a hot stove. they will die.

Try to remove a little water and add a little water. Keep the water level as close to the norm as possible. Instead of taking all 5 or 10 gallons or whatever out at once and replacing them all at once, do it in intervals.

An anemone in the top corner of the tank may be a sign of low flow or light in the tank. What is your turnover, lighting?

Just like removing a coral from the tank! You make sure it retracts fully & expels the water. Just irritate it so it shrivels up & then do the water change. Don't u have a sump to just do the water change through it?
