water changes during Prazipro treatment?

I am currently treating fish with Prazipro. Is there any issue with changing 5 gallons and treating the 5 gallons with a fresh mixture to keep the overall tank concentration of Prazipro the same before / after the treatment? The directions are lacking a bit and almost make it sound like that you should not do that or maybe they are just saying don't increase the dosage during the 5 - 7 day treatment. Any input would be appreciated

A 20 gallon tank that I plan on changing about 4 or 5 gallons of tonight.
SO I plan on using a 1/4 teaspoon with 5 gallons.

From what I remember, water changes during Prazi Pro treatment should come at the 5 to 7 day mark, or between PP treatments. I believe the thinking behind this is to prevent toxic buildup of dead flukes/parasites. Given that you're effectively doing a water change and re-treating the tank you should be safe, but I'd contact the manufacturer to be safe.

The normal course of treatment is to run PraziPro for 5 days, perform a water change, let the tank set for 2-3 days, and then run another 5 day treatment and do another water change. As Aleonn says, the water changes are to remove dead flukes so that you don't have decaying organic matter in the tank.

You should be fine doing a 5 gallon water change in the middle of your PraziPro treatment if it you need to do it to manage water quality. Just replace the PraziPro removed. In this case, I would wait another day or two before changing out the water and starting another day of PraziPro treatment.

If the water change is not really needed (i.e., it was just time to do a routine weekly water change), I would wait until the end of 5 days before making the change.

Hi there,

Just read this post in time.

I just about to make water change and would like to dose Prazipro in my tank (suspect of internal worms of my PB and YT) but apparently, I am travelling next tuesday and will only be back by saturday. I am having some confusion if I have to doSe the prazipro now or waited I got back home and may have time to monitor any needed urgent water change during the coarse. I learned that dosing Prazipro is safe in your DT but it may kill some flat worms or other kind of worms as well and this may cause ammonia spike. so I am really confuse and need some good advises.

By the way, thanks again to Sandwi54 that bring me a lot of good stuff all the way from the US.

hope ot have some urgent reply and advises.

cheers,

It sounds like you have a fully cycled tank holding the fish, so I would dose PraziPro just before you leave, and then do a water change and another dose of PraziPro when you return. If the first dose is Tuesday, I would do the water change and second dose on Sunday as I like to give it 5 days. Unless your fish are just covered in flukes, which doesn't sound like the case, you aren't going to have enough die-off to create an ammonia spike, particularly if the tank holding the fish is already cycled.

Thanks Frank for your kind advise

My tank is fully cycled and I just make 30% Water Change.

If I dose it today, should I turn off the Protein Skimmer completely for the duration of 5 days?

Cheers,

MD
