does anyone have any recomendations on what kind of filter to use when adding water to tank? and how often should i test my water? thanks in advance!:rollface:

I test my water around 2 times a week. Then every 4 weeks or so, I take some water into the LFS just to see what he gets & compare it to my readings
When I add the new water to the tank during my water change, I just filter it through some FilterFloss.

You should be using RO if not RODI, which is what most reefers prefer.
When your tank is new you need to test frequently for ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites. As your tank matures you can test less for certain parameters but will need ot test more for others depending on what your going to keep in the tank.

i do 10% water changes once a week..... its not very hard if you get into the habit

When I did my last post, I was talking about filtering the new saltwater when adding it to the tank to keep out any small psc of anything from getting into the tank.

I wasn't talking about the RO/DI water that was being used for the water change. I was assuming that using RO/DI water was a given.

After rereading his question, I'm not sure really what he ment now. Maybe he WAS just talking about filtering Tap water.

ill make myself i little clearer. ( sry) i have a 210 gallon tank that has a UV light and 55 gallon sump tank. The water evaporates within 3 days. My question is when I add water to the tank should I use RO/DI unit? Does that came straight from the tap?

Never use straight Tap water. Always use RO/DI water. You want 0.0 TDS

You can get a good RO/DI system from TheFilterGuys. The Ocean Reef +1 is only $199.99. I bought this system last year to replace my old one. I love it.

YES........if you look at the picture of my system, the yellow tube is the " in " supply. This yellow tube is connected to a faucet adapter & is attached to the faucet on my slop tub. You will want to be sure that you have around 60/70 PSI. The Ocean Reef system does come with a PSI guage. The system does come with a saddle valve, however sometimes you wont get good PSI when using the saddle valve.

Agree there's a bunch more sources for RO/DI units that will not only blow away the Kent but are a whole lot cheaper. And they are all sponsers here on RC.
