Water clairity

I have a 120 gallon corner. I am wondering how I get the particles of white debris or sand to not be constantly circulating. I have a filter sock on the drain. Not sure what micron. Probably could get a finer sock. It does not seem to even be getting to the sump to be filtered.

How long has the tank been set up? What kind of flow do you have in the tank? What kind of sand did you use? How long has the tank been set up? Need a little more background info.

I have had the tank up for about a month and a half. No fish just live sand and live rock 120 lbs. The sand grain is all diffirent. I got it from a local guy that hand a tank full of it. The pump is a little giant 4. I have the ball valve restricted about 1/3. I am thinking about 400-450 gph.

Try moving your powerheads a bit further away from the sand bed. Try moving them around as well as your returns. Have you checked your calcium to make sure it's not precipitate? If you have very high calcium it will look like white particles/snow in the water also. One more thing, are you sure it's sand/particles and not micro bubbles? Just a couple of ideas, HTH.

do you have any powerheads or just the return. It don't seem like you would be getting sand blowing around with just the return. I agree it could be microbubbles. Fine bubbles will make the water look cloudy. Do you have a pic you can post?

+2 - walkthedog and kakabub may be right. I have a a 90g fowlr and when I first put my Tunze 9010 skimmer in the bubbles were all over and as it settled in they became smaller and smaller. Looked like miniscule junk initially but now so small as to be almost imperceptable unless you are right up to the glass. I was first scooping water up in test tubes to let it settle for analysis but nothing ever settled - just bubbles eventually reaching oblivion at the surface.
