Water Depth For BM250

I just purchased a BM250. I'm told it is the latest version 4 model which has a gate valve on it.

I bought it for a new tank I'm setting up this fall, but wanted to put it on my existing tank for the time being.

It didn't have any instructions

My LFS said to put it in 6 inches if water, which I have done, but this looks too low and I'm not getting flow into the neck of the skimmer even with the gate valve closed as much as I can

Anyone esle have this version, who can let me know what level you have the water at?

From reading all the threads on the Bubblemaster skimmers, you can install anywhere from 5"-10". 6"-7" for drier skimming and 8"-9" for wetter skimming. You may want to try 8" and see if that helps. It will certainly raise the waterlevel within the skimmer by quite a bit, so you will need to open up the gate valve to compensate for the difference.

it has to break in first though.. once it has broken in, it will be pushing foam from where the water level is now.. they blow alot of air.

I would move the level to 8" and then leave it there for 3 days to see how the skimmer behaves. Make sure that the bubble breaking level is no more than 1" above the bottom of the collection cup and don't touch the skimmer for 3 days while it's breaking in.

Powerhead Issue

Powerhead Issue

It looks like the problem was I didn't realize one of the powerheads wasn't working.

When I dissasembled the powerhead that was having the issues the white stick in the middle of the impeller was in 3 pieces which I have never seen on any powerhead and I presume is the source of the problem.

Mine was the last unit the LFS had, so it looks like I may need to wait to get this going.

It did work for a few seconds after I tried reassembling the powehead anway and it looked like the water level might work once I get the replacement.

The powerhead works without the shaft (white stick). I've seen the RC member Magvi posts that he used his BM250 without the shaft. This way you won't be down waiting for a replacement shaft. If I were you, have your dealer contact ReefGeek as they may have the replacement part to ship out right away.
