Water Exchange Acclimation

Do any of you use the "recommended" acclimations suggested by Liveaquaria or others where you take a little water out, pour a little in (from QT/DT), repeat about 4 to 5 times, then put your fish in the QT/DT?

I have normally had my QT ready to go, set for close to the expected SG.
I just float the bag for temp about 20 minutes and then put the fish, provided they're close. (Since drip acclimation is frowned upon due to the escalation in toxciity on opening the bag).

However, I'm ordering a captive bred mandarin in the next week, and it'll be going straight in the DT. My DT is about 1.025-1.026 in sg. Should I abide by the supplier's guide on acclimation if it comes in lower than 1.023?

Always best to follow their guide for warranty reasons ..If you follow..they cant deny a claim because of not following....
But how do they prove/disprove that anyways...

I only float for temp then pour it in...I dont qt either but realize i am taking chances..

You need to match temp and salinity when acclimating fish. So if the water comes lower than 1.025, it'd be best to do some drip acclimation to match it.

If the SG is within .04, you are probably fine. I double water volume with tank water. Wait 15 min and then put them in either QT or whatever. Some need drip like the copper band butterfly

In most cases, fish are shipped in lower salinity to reduce stress. This can be in the 1.020 area.

reefs with corals are run higher in the 1.0255 range so I do take some water and put in bag, then float, and repeat until I am no more than .002 out.

That's why it is reccomended to increase salinity when finishing Hypo at no more than .002 per day. Now that would no be possible but any attempt to match will create less stress.

You will know if the difference was to high....the fish will sit on the bottom or perch still until it can process the higher salinity and lower oxygenated water.

If it was close, the fish will move around as normal almost immediately.

Thank you everyone. Looks like I'm ordering for Wed, Woohoo.

May get a firefish to ttm/QT as well. LAs free shipping kicks in after $99, so might as well.

Also, it looks like LA's Wisconsin facility ships at 1.025 sg. That's where the mandy will be coming from, so that should make it easy if that's the case.
