Water Flow

How much flow should i provide for a 75-90 gallon tank? Yes I plan on having a reef setup. I'm looking for an answer in gph.

depends on what corals, very difficult to answer with no info about the type of corals you intend to keep, however anywhere between 1,800-4,500 per hour is a good guide.

Within the sump, I target 5-10gph turnover (others may target 3-5x). Within the display tank, I go for about 25-40gph. I'm sure many people have higher DT flow, especially with SPS.

If it's not SPS, then careful to not have TOO much flow. Also, you don't want very narrow directional, constant flow. I would suggest a Vortech. Maybe 2 MP10's or MP20's at most. They have a very wide varied flow. My corals love it. I have more than that, but it's a bigger tank, however, once I hooked up an MP20 on the end of the tank, everything just seemed happier.

If the Vortech is too much money, then I suggest some kind of wavemaker/controller with 2 or 3 powerheads to keep from beating anything up with constant direct flow.

So, to almost answer your question, a little less varied. wider flow would be better than lots of narrow concentrated flow that may beat up on one coral and not give enough to another.

There! That should confuse you!
