can anyone tell me what the heck is going on? water is very very foggy. did water changes and nothing seems to help. noticed that the skimmer was clogged but it has since been running with no improvements. all water parms seems to be fine. corals and fish are fine but really hard to see with the water being so cloudy. what am I dealing with here? can ayone offer suggestions? thanks and sorry , I wasn't sure where to post this.

If it's a milky cloudy water, I agree with M88a2 calclium probably came out of solution. It its greeish or brownish or yellow ting, could be some sort of algea bloom, or dinoflaglets.

I only use a cal. reactor no kalwasser or anything like that so I doubt is calcium... its like you said a yellowish brownish tinge or color. fish and corals seem to be fine but I can hardly see them. It looks like some sort of algea bloom to me.

SO ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN GET RID OF DINOFLAGLETS OR ALGAE BLOOM? ANY ADVICE WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. THANKS

I would start with UV. JBJ makes a Submariner that Is self contained no plumbing necessary that you can drop into your tank or sump and give it a day or 2 to clear up.

Hopfully the submariner is not too pricey . it sounds like just the thing especially if the prob is from dinoflaglets. I believe I have the same problem in my tank and its been going on for 3 months now. Ive done water changes, siphoning, blasting gunk off with turkey basters and more water changes scrapeing siphoning and nothing is improving. The stuff on my rock looks like tan/brownish snot. if I dont stay after it, it forms bubbles in it. I was going to try lights off competely and blacking out my tank for 2 days. The submariner sounds like it should work. Hopefully its afordable. Im fed up with an unclear tank myslef too.

If you have room under the tank i would try an algae scrubber (ATS). Its cheap, it will cause algae to grow on the screen and not as much in your tank. Algae blooms can be caused by a number of things. But they do help keep your tank clean so something must be out of balance. There is a sticky about how to make them. Check it out, may help.

I have a sump under my tank but never set up. I hae aHOB filter I rn some charcoal, and a phase remover pad and floss to that I rinse out evey other day.
I am thinking about trying an UV.unit next.
The ony other thing recommended was to blackout the entire tank for 2 - 3 days. I have so little in the way of corals left in mytank I could move them to do this. I'm not sure its a suntion fo Coralcruz but does Anyone know i this will work?

I had the same problem and started to dose H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide) at 1ml per 10 gallons and in six days my tank is crystal clear and the algea from my sand bed is gone.

Where in AZ are you ?

I would start with carbon to help clear it up quickly, then you can do whatever else you find helpful here for longer-term.
