Water quality questions!

Ok quick question that hopefully someone can shed some light on! I am starting up a 120 gallon with a 29 gallon sump reef system. I am at the adding the water stage! If I were to add straight tap water what do I need to know to make sure this is safe for the inhabitants? Also if I do decide to go this route what is the proper technique if any to make the water safe? Thanks in advance!

I would advise against straight tap water. The first thing you need is a good RO/DI unit.

I guess I dont know what I should be looking for in a Unit? Are there different filters? or how many GPD I need

I went with the Ocean reef + 1 & am very happy. I have had it about a year now.
