water temp & crab died

Hi I am setting up a 9 gallon nano and i am concerned my water temp might be to high. At hottest it gets to 82 degrees. i have already installed a fan to keep the PCs (24Wx2) cool. Is my water temp to high? Also, I had a sally lightfoot crab that died. The tank seems stable, I check my parameters weekly and change 1 gallon of water every two weeks. But on another note, I have had the tank set up for about 12 weeks and my snails seem fine, as do my 20 or so feather dusters that came with the live rock, also I have bristleworms that are not dieing. Can anyone provide assistance.

thanks ray

82 degrees is fine. I suggest doing weekly water changes on a tank that small.

how long do you have the crabs before they die?

what are your water parameters? (numbers please)

also [welcome]

watter parameter details like sam metioned would explain ALOT.

its a small tank so you need to keep up on water changes ...but some may argue that with a GOOD filter/ skimming system you wont have to do so as much or maybe at all.

try lifting the PC a tad bit higher and have a fan blow acrosst the water/ on the light

82 isnt bad....mine went up one time to 86 (never again) cleaner shrimp died but everything else stayed alive. i guess you live and learn.

I have 45 watts of PC in an enclosed ventilated hood over a 5 gallon nano. I still have to use a heater to keep the temp from dropping below 78. Although 82 is still ok, I imagine for a 10 gallon fan-cooled tank most of your heat may be coming from your pump.

I just checked everything, and the tank is solid,

Temp varies 78.6-82.4° F
Specific Gravity= 1.022
pH= 8.2
Alkalinity= 2.3 meq/liter
Calcium= 500mg/L (i know this is a bit high, but i don't have any corals and don't add suppliments)

Ammonia= 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 0

forgot to add, the crab was new, about a week, but i also had a peppermint shrimp (before i got the crab) and he died as well this was before i added the fan to the lights and believe the tank got to hot for him, as the temp got over 86.

Well your salinity is pretty low. It should be around 1.024-1.026. Lower than that is extremely tough on inverts. How are you acclimating?

The temp is fine and your range is on the low end of reef temps. It's not an issue.
