Water Top-Off

JohnS--just a follow up comment. being down 3 gallons in a 55 is only a bit iffy for more sensitive corals. The risk is that you do a 15 gal water change with full-strength mixed saltwater and replace 12 gallons of saltwater and 3 gallons of evaporation. You will either have to do the water change with a more dilute salt solution or be sure to use 3 gallons of RO in addition the needed amount of saltwater. Always check salinity (or SG) both before and after the change. Make adjustments gradually.

David is your system gravity fed?

Yes my system is gravity fed (gravity is "free" energy let it do the work), but don't have to much elevation it can cause too much pressure, which will find any small holes in the system.

you are aware that ro units are not very effective when run short amount of times right?? Most people who run an ro unit direct as there float use a ratchet style. So as the bottom switch trigers it fills till a top switch triggers so it runs longer but not as offten.

Nope but thats what R/C is for. I thought that as long as the pressures were right it could turn on and off whenever it needed.......as I look at storage tanks and redundent switches :P
