Water Weight

What does a gallon of water weigh? I'm trying to figure out how many containers I need to move my system to it's new home tomorrow. I already have water being made at the new house but wanted to bring as much of the existing water as possible.

Thanks

water weighs exactly 8.345404 pounds per gallon. If it is saltwater just a fraction more.

Google works wonders my friend.

Water change

Are there any negatives to doing a 50-60% water change? I'm moving the tank tomorrow and don't want to schlep 100 gallons of water. The system will also be switched over from a dsb to a BB tank, I'm not sure if that's relative or not.

Thanks

why not hit up HD and get some 5gal jugs. NO sense wasting cycled water if your only going to make more cycled water.

Be careful when you're moving it. Not so much for the weight of it, but that you don't break any seals and spout leaks. Moving a tank with water in it, which is what I'm thinking you may be doing, is never a good idea. It can compromise the integrity of the tank.

If you even considering moving a tank with water in it please do not do it. I have a friend that tried to lift and move a tank that was only about 1/4 full and the bottom is not made to hold the weight like that I guess and it pretty much just fell out. Good luck either way Scott

Thanks for the heads up but I had no intention of moving the tank with water in it. I purchased a 90g and it's sitting at the new house, I just need the water, LR, corals, fish, and the stand that my current 75 is sitting on now.:D
