Waterproof floor in fish room

Does anyone have any good suggestions. I'm making up a small fish room about 8 feet by 5 feet. And putting in a floor drain.

Any ideas on how to waterproof the floor so all water can go down the drain.

Look up Mr saltwater fish for one of his recent fish rooms videos. He used pond liner up the wall slightly all the way to the drain and a layer of food grade kitchen floor mats on top. I loved this idea and will consider it myself. But I thought it was well thought out.

I remeber this video

Let me try and find it again.

Just wonder if you put the stand on top of it or not.

On top of the liner he did. The stand was raised up enough for fluid to go under

There are fluid applied coatings that you should be able to buy locally in order to waterproofing your floor. This is typically applied to the concrete slab and flashed in to the drain. If you're making the room, you can always pitch the finish to the drain as well.

What floor finish are you looking to have?

Look into resinous flooring. It's a fluid applied material that you can turn up onto the walls and make an integral base to keep any spilled water confined to the fish room. It gets flashed down to the drain body and creates a waterproof floor covering.

Don't really care about what it looks like as long as it water tight.

Just confused as you see the video they have the black rubber and you see the floor drain on the left. Now how does the water get to it. It seems not to be sloped at all.

I wonder if he has a form to ask.

When I changed out my tank I took out the carpet and put down 6"x24" ceramic flooring that looks like wood. It took me a while since I had to lay 1200 square feet of it but it was worth it because I never have to worry about the floor getting wet.

Are you installing the drain in a ground floor or basement or?
Basement that is all concrete flooring. It will be tied into the main line. Plumber will be doing this for me. As we are getting our basement done

Then you should do the ceramic. Its the perfect option if you want the wood look and not have to ever worry about water. I'll see if I cant find a pic.

that would be great if you can..

What did you put under the tiles?

Is it hard to tile? never done this - just trying to save some money and not let my contractor do this if I can figure it out by my self..

What type of floors do you have now ?

Do you know if the floors are slopped maybe sagging toward a spot?

Is here a basement or craw space under the area or room ?

its in my unfinished basement

concrete then mud under that no craw space

i'm not sure if they are slopped or not. have to check that out.. but they look flat to me as it will be going in a corner of the basement

Of course theres endless possibilities when it comes to ceramic floor but this is the one I liked and its waterproof and maintenance free for life.

It's fairly easy but very time consuming, that's why contractors charge so much to do it. Just get the spacers you want and the color grout. I used 1/4" spacers and black grout. You'll need a tile saw as well. You use tile mortar underneath btw not the grout.
