Waterweld, it's not just for coral!

It's funny how many times I have used my reef toolbox for something besides the tank. Whats even more hilarious is the fact that what is in my aquarium toolbox, to a non reefer, would generally have nothing to do with a fish tank. Bone cutters, super glue etc.

Last night the tap for my icemaker sprung a leak, a really bad leak. The tap was on a copper pipe, so it wasn't as simple as cutting and replacing PVC. The water was spraying so far and loudly that I was able to hear it over the sound of my tank, washer and dryer in a closed door while upstairs. It was as loud as an outdoor sprinkler system. My girlfriend went into panic mode about ready to call a plumber, when I opened up my aquarium toolbox to see what I could plug the hole with. This is about the point where I got screamed at for worrying about the fish tank and not the water all over the floor. Fortunately I had a half of a stick of waterweld sitting around. Never using it for the application it was designed for, I immediately started to laugh. Twisted off a ball of it and worked it a bit. Plugged the hole and we lived happily ever after.

Nope. I pulled the plug and replaced the valve. The threading on the original valve split somehow and all I needed to do was replace it.

thats cool i dont recommend those needle valves I end up seeing alott of them leaking normally i just solder a tee and shutoff in

During my current bathroom add/remodel I have dipped into my aquarium tool kit for a couple items. It is kinda funny to see what we keep for our aquariums, people would think we have a medical or drug hobby.
