Well long story short bad things happen when salt water mixes with a natural wave (power strip) wave timer :sad2: so Im on the hunt for a new set up I currently have three un modded maxi-jet 1200's I know they aren't the best but the seem to be doing fine for me and they were in my budget. I've been looking around and holy cow can these things get up there in $$$$ I found the WaveMaster Pro by Red Sea and it seems cool but what I dont want is to spend that kind of money to get something that essentially does the same thing as the 40.00 power strip Ild like the nice swaying motion that I see in alot of tanks where as the power strip just turned one on and off at random not really much of a wave will this do what Im looking for??? any videos??? any help is greatly appreciated ~Crashjt

what was the question? yes they can be used on a wave maker but you should mod them.
glue the magnet to the prop so they don't click when startup.
mod them for flow with the kit.

my main question is that the old power strip was just on or off with the slight adjustment of how long the cycle was 20sec to 5min not really a wave motion like Im seeing in certain videos if it just turns power heads on and off I can do that with another strip???

Ill see if I can find some videos........

I would like the best of both video's. The back and forth like the first one and then the carefree-ness of the second one. Keeping an eye on this thread, lol.

thats exactly what Im in search of however in all honesty in today's economy I cannot afford these $300 controllers with $180ish powerheads.....Looking for suggestions how is this WaveMaster Pro by Red Sea I already have the maxi-jets it would be such a smooth transition and realatively inexpensive too!!

no thats just a video I found on youtube it seems Way overkill to me but the swaying motion is there...... Ive seen plenty of reef vids with that gentle swaying motion there has to be a way to get it without spending a grand lol

Under 1K? Get a wavebox...I personally hate them because they take up too much space, but they are way under 1K and they do a great job.

I'm looking into getting 2 Vortec MP40's. Being in Canada, I will be paying over 1K :-(

Nobody knows how this WaveMaster Pro works or operates I know there have been several sold in the equipment for sale section somebody chime in please!!!!!!!!!

your asking about the actual workings of the unit ohh, well there different settings and it all depend were you place your maxis, the power heads can be set at random etc.. so there won't be a constant one way flow.

you will burn out your maxis in short order doing this. they aren't meant for on/off. That's why variable pumps cost so much. Believe me, what you think you will save up front will end up costing more in the long run (like everything else in this hobby).

Wave action costs $$$. No way around it. Unless you want to DIY a surge device/dump bucket. that might get you what you want for cheap, but you'll have to deal with some noise and unsightly equipment.

I was reading about the random flow but it kinda said the same thing about the Natural wave but really all it meant on the strip was that it turned any one or all three on at a time, beats having all three on all the time but there was really no "wave" at all as far as the on/off It says that the wavemaster has some kind of soft on to help protect the motor... if I need to buy new power heads in a year or so who cares they were on this other wave strip for like a year and a half and they are only $30. Basically what Im wanting it to do is to kick a power head on softly and say vary the amperage so the motor pulses and simulates a wave then move to the other power head and do the same thing or some variation of this im assuming this is how the hydor and other wave makers work who knows all this crap is so confusing sometimes......
