Wave2K vs Tunze Wavebox

I have been trying to read up on Wave2K and Tunze Wavebox experiences -- my 150G is in desparate need of more flow and these products seem like good options. I realize this is an expensive hobby, but ~$500 for the Tunze Wavebox seems a little nuts to me. At roughly half the cost, I could consider the Wave2K. Any local experience with either of these products?

Although the Wave2K does provide good random water movement, it will not give you the wave effect that a Wavebox will.

You might want to also consider an Oceans Motions unit or a SCWD on a closed loop.

If you have ever seen the video's of the Tunze Wavebox's in action:eek2: Its hard not to fall for them. The price does take you outta orbit tho. Reality sets back in.

The WaveySea's are said to beable to handle more flow then the SeaSwirls. That and you can program the degree of motion. I'm seriously considering one of these. The price is much easier to handle also.

I always thought the wave box was a huge waste of space. If you're looking High end check out the Vortec

I always found the the toilet plumbing overflow idea intriguing.

I'm going to try a scwd on my 125.

It all depends on the aquarium's configuration. Each device, typically has their gains and short comings. Personally I've opted for OceanMotion's 4 way valve with rotating single nozzle squirts. Takes up way less space then the other options.

the wave box price seems high but if you take into consideration the price of a 3100 stream and a controller its not that much more.

I have never heard anyone say they regretted buying a wave box...

were the belt issues of the wave2K ever resolved?
could do a couple seaswirls on a closed loop with some eductors on the ends. would run about 3 bills.

From what I have been reading, it seems like the belt issues of the Wave2K have been resolved. That being said, both the Wave2K and the Wavebox take up quite a bit of real estate. Another option I thought of was a pair of Seio M2600s (2600gph x2 for ~$150) - can't put them on a controller but that is a lot of flow. Also, lots of mixed reviews on the Seios -- but I have had 2 Seio M820s on my 55G with no problems in 2 years. Tunze Turbelle streams get great reviews but unless they are bulletproof, I have a difficult time justifying the cost.

I am currently useing the wave2k on my tank. it works really well except i do not like how it uses suction cups to hold it in place and also it make more noise then i really like. other then that i have great flow in my tank. i waited for marine depo to mail out a 20% off coupon and picked it up ..

Kevin,

Why not do a couple maxijet 1200 mod's ? I think they will give you the flow you desire and at the least they are cheap and it could be a temporary fix as you save up for something bigger and better :)

Scott (Fishfinatic) has one he told me that It sloshed water out of his AGA Wave. That is impressive but he complained about the amount of space it occupied.

I think they are pretty much bullet proof I've never heard complaints but WOW what a price tag. I have seen the Vortec in action. I am impressed but there is another $$$$$$... piece of equipment
