I am going to be upgrading to a marineland dd 300 gallon tank ,its 6ftx36x27 ,will the wavebox work on this tank ? I also have an mp40 I can throw on will this be enough flow

The wavebox is generally not a good source of flow on it's own. It is a great addition to a good directional current from other powerheads but outside of some specialty set ups of filter feeders or anemones, I would start with a base of a couple of good powerheads and add the wavebox, 2 6105's and a 7096 would be a better initial investment, if you went with the wavebox the Mp-40 and one other pump should be used.

The bottom line is the wavebox creates a wave, if you have ever been to a sea shore or large lake the sand you kick up just washes back and forth and largely goes no where unless a current carries it away. The wavebox will do just that, things wash back and forth, they lift and suspend, but something has to sweep that to the filter or overflow.

Where would be the best placement for the wave box in this tank?

On a side or on the back glass?

Waveboxes always work best on the side with a clear shot down the length of the tank.

Yes, it doesn't have to be anything fancy, a 6065 would do the job, but you do need a bit more directional current in my opinion.
