Wavebox in a 3ft tank, am I pushing it?

Man this thing is cool. I want to get one for my 58 gallon Oceanic(36x18.5x21), is this feasible? Since the tank is shorter, the intrinsic frequency is higher, and the period of the wave shorter.

Will this be cool or just chaos? Anyone seen a Wavebox on a 3 ft. tank?

i tried it in my 58 and while it was cool i have an acrylic lip on my tank (i bet there's a pic in my gallery) that didn't allow it to be properly exposed on top-so it made some hideous sucking noises. for a three foot tank i had it set on the shortest period the controller allows and while it seemed to work well-there is little room for adjustment. anything shorter than 36" i'd say no way...(but for the minute or so i had it on-i couldn't believe how much crap it stirred up-otherwise a very clean-some would say sterile:lol:-barebottom tank)

Thanks for the great info!

How short did you notice the period being? (less than 1 second?)

Can I ask why you decided to only run it for 1 minute? =)

if i had to guess the period was around 2 seconds

when i realized it wasn't gonna work long term-because of the horrible sucking noises-i yanked it. i had intended for it to be a supplement to my already decent waterflow. i would have had to make some dramatic changes to continue to use the wavebox

i also had one in a 58 gal no sucking noise

the problem is that this is made for a longer tank i got a 1/2 inch wave

what is funny i get a 1/4 inch wave with me 6100 without the wavebox

Actually, I prefer that the wave be around 1/2"

I got interested in the Wavebox after seeing videos of soft corals moving back and forth in such a natural looking fashion. As long as I get good movement of water, I would be very happy.

Do you still have the Wavebox on your tank? And if possible, would you be willing to send me a video? I could host it for everyone to see on my website.

Thanks!
