Wavysea Wavemaker...

It's a possibility. If I can figure out a way to get two of these setup with penductors I'll probably remove my over the top closed loop (assuming the flow is good enough). I'll let ya know :)

I would worry about the penductor putting too much pressure on the seals of the wave maker. Keep us posted on that.

That was one specific question I asked the company that built it. I was really worried about the back pressure it was going to create. They responded with something along the lines of "this is a product nothing like the sea swirl that has problems with back pressure, this product can push over 2300 gph with no problems what so ever". So, it looks like i'll be safe, but we shall see.

I dunno about 2,300 - that would be incredible. But you know I'll test it.

From the other thread ....

-----

For those who have owned SS - then this unit, they are in different leagues altogether. Everything from construction to functionality to packaging to ease of mounting. They are not cheap, but when compared to a SS, this is worlds apart. I think this will be able to handle as much flow as a 1" SS, and its not really that much more. Its almost completely silent.

Of course durability will be the question, and customer service, but looking at the detail that went into this unit, I'm going to guess both will be there. At LEAST as much as a SS.

Here are the pix out of the box - they should be entirely plumbed up in a few days!

Alright.. So here's my review.

I bought my unit from Aquarium Specialty. I ordered it last Thursday, got it yesterday. Aquarium Specialty did a great job getting me the product, and at $222 + shipping, it's a heck of a deal. Go check them out. The item was JUST released to the public last Monday and was being drop shipped from the manufacturer. The packaging was very nice as the pictures show. Everything was in a nice foam container.... Not that I really cared. I just wanted the toy :)

I took it out and started to play with it. I first noticed that the bottom return uses o-rings to keep the 90' elbow connected. It kept it snug, but not that snug. Definitely not snug enough to hold the pressure a penductor would create. So, I decided to remove the o-rings and wrap it with some silicone pipe tape. I got it nice and tight than pushed the elbow on. Much better, much more secure than the o-rings.

I got it all plumbed up to connect my penductor, hooked it up to my return and slowly turned on my Iwaki 100RLT in the basement. My first impression was amazement. This thing was awesome! I had some killer flow going all the way across my tank, back and forth creating great movement and waves. Welp..... Let's just say even though the company said these things could handle the back pressure of the penductor, they were wrong. It started to leak internally a bit. So, I turned it off, let it dry out cleaned everything up and removed the penductor. So, now I just have a 90' coming off the bottom.

Although, I'm kind of disappointed the penductor didn't work it's still a neat toy. I really like the ability to change the speeds and the direction. One great feature would be a night/day mode or a tidal surge mode. Something you could set for an hour or two out of the day where it would go back and forth really fast, then slow down during the "low tide" times.

I'm currently running my Iwaki 100RLT at full throttle through it; it's doing around 1500 gph or so. Handling the pressure of that with no problems. I do notice some micro bubbles, but I can't be sure if those are being introduced from my sump or the device itself.

I give it 3 out of 4 stars.

Can be either or. It comes with two barb attachments. A 1" and a 3/4". I am using the 1" which fits perfectly into flex PVC. The outlet is 1" as well.

So is it a 3/4" input or 1"?

WavySea Includes: WavySea Main body, WavySea Controller, Powerhead adaptor, 1 inch elbow at inlet side, 3/4 inch elbow at inlet side, Fixed bracket set (1 pair, 1 set), Cap for inlet fixing

TacoKing, I have been looking at these and trying to picture a Tunze mounted on them... It would have to be a DIY mount, but if you could get the Tunze to stay, do you see a problem with them working with a 6100 or even a 6200 ??

Tough call. Very tough call. I'd be worried about the pressure the Tunze would put against the shaft. I'd say it would work, but for how long I don't know. Quite possibly it would work forever, but don't quote me on that.

It wouldn't be hard to mount it, they actually come with a mount for powerheads that you can mod pretty easy.

I actually had to have mine replaced. The penductor caused so much back pressure that it leaked internally and the motor stopped working. The company was great about it. They shipped me a new one with out even shipping the old one back. (Which I have to remind myself to do today)

Yeah :( A little too late. It doesn't look like they are going to switch mine out with the new version. I was the reason this was created too! Ahh well. I guess I could always sell mine and pick up a new version at some point.

I am glad I waited... I think I will wait a little while after they come out as well since they are so new... I guess there is one good thing about my tank is taking as long as it has...

Yea I know... The main reason I waited was because I could not use them right away if I did get them... I am just now getting water in the display and still need to finish up the sump / ref over the next few days... Since the Wavysea(s) are not a "needed" item to get the system up and running they will be added later down the road...

Off Topic Question...

Why does everyone quote the post immediately prior to their reply?

I guess it's just a pet-peeve of mine. I figure I'm pretty good at following a conversation - even if someone sneaks a post or two between the original comment and the response - I can usually figure it out...
